Astrology: Birth Sign CRISIS!

I was about to wish all you Libras a Happy Birthday – when I realized that some of you may not be entirely sure whether or not you’re a Virgo or a Libra.
Until he began working for me, my fabulous assistant, Will, thought he was a Virgo. But once I did his individual birth chart, he discovered he had another identity – he’s a Libra.
This same dilemma occurs for anybody born on what’s often termed the “cusp” of a sign. The confusion is the result of the range of dates given in various publications as the day each sign begins. That’s compounded by the general assumption that, like New Year’s Eve, each sign starts at midnight on specific date – and that date is the same each year.
Actually, the dates the signs begin are determined by the start of each season. And that date varies from year to year. This year, in 2009, Autumn – and the sign of Libra – begin today (as I write this), September 22nd at 9:20PM GMT, or adjusted for Daylight Savings Time, 10:20 PM here in London.
But this must be adjusted for the location. So if you’re on the east coast of the States, Libra begins at 5:20PM, or on Pacific Time, it’s 2:20 in the afternoon!
Therefore, a baby born today, here in London at 9:00 PM, would be a Virgo, but if the birth were at 10:30 PM, the child would be a Libra.
However, a child born any time after 5:20 PM in the Eastern Time Zone in the USA is Libra, and after 2:20 PM further west.
But that’s this year. That time – and sometimes the day – change each year. For example, in 2010, Libra begins on September 23rd, at 3:10 AM, London time.
And this influences each sign of the zodiac, each year. But although it varies from one year to the next, there is an exact moment when each sign begins.
So there really is no such thing as being “on the cusp.” An individual is one sign or the other. If you, or somebody you know, are unsure which sign you are, it’s easy to find out. My website, http://www.shelleyvonstrunckel.com offers a chart calculation service, and there are numerous free options on the internet. However, ensure your birth hour is handy. And that it’s as accurate as possible – ideally from your birth certificate – as 4 minutes can make a difference.
When it comes to assessing your character, while position of the sun on your birthdate indicates fundamental character traits, there’s far more to it than that. Everybody is a composite of all twelve signs. The positions of the other heavenly bodies – the Moon, Mercury, Mars, and so on – in the signs, and relative to each other, are of huge influence.
Sometimes, in fact, they’ll completely alter the story. These are revealed in an individual’s personal chart or horoscope (the word actually means “hour picture!”) For example, I recently did the chart of an Aries. In his case, while the Sun was in Aries, there were four planets in the earthy, precise Taurus!
So if you’re suffering from sign confusion, you now know the remedy.
And if you know your sign, but want to learn more about yourself, and your potential, you’ll find exploring your personal chart an amazingly informative and rewarding experience.
