Colette’s Halloween Happenings: Orbs; What…or Who… Are They?

Retail sales (in the USA) of Halloween related products almost equal that of Christmas.

Those are big numbers.

And there are those who predict Halloween sales will supercede that of Christmas within the next couple years.

So, why have sales for Halloween gained such momentum? What is it about Halloween, in particular, that appeals so to the public?

During October I’ll be posting a series of articles about Halloween and related subject matter.

Maybe together, we can discover the reason(s) Halloween has become such a favored holiday with the American public.

Another subject that has captured the attention of the public is orbs. What few books there are about orbs are flying off the shelves and publishers are on the hunt for “authorities” to pen more.

I’m asked all the time about orbs.

I want to go on record as saying I believe in them and have my own proof they exist. Marc (my husband) and I always have our camera at the ready to photograph orbs. In fact, Marc took all the orb photos you see in this post.

Even our dogs get  in on the act by barking like crazy every time they “see” one.

BUT…

I am not the absolute authority on orbs (I don’t know anyone who is) and I wanted to offer you diverse information on them so you can make your own decision. So I went on The Great Orb Info Hunt…and…if I do say so myself…my hunting attire ROCKED!

I took some time to explore what’s out there in the wilds of the net.

There are as many stories, theories and hypotheses as there are orbs…maybe more! Some of it is pretty compelling…some…not so much.

One of the more interesting pieces of material I found was some history on the word “orb”, itself. According to several sites, it appears the term is only about sixteen years old. The International Ghost Hunters Society (USA) claimed the word as their own creation in 2002.

As a side note, and for no other reason than it made me laugh, I’ve included the following in my report; in the UK the term for orbs is “lightballs”.

Also, interesting to me is the theory that the heightened interest in orbs and orb photography has only come about in conjunction with the advent of the digital camera. The idea being there is something about the pixilation of pictures taken by a digital camera which causes orbs to appear in photos.

Halloween Series Marc Lindeman Orbs Photo 4I don’t subscribe to that theory because there are hundreds of thousands of photos out there which have “unexplainable ghostly images” in them from the time photography was first invented.

My own opinion is that the internet very well may be the reason for the growing interest in orbs. Until the internet, very little organized information was available on orbs and, what was available, was not easily found. We all know what powerful communication and community is driven on the net so the idea could, certainly, hold water.

Some sources site orbs as only appearing in haunted places. Some say they only show up only when there is love all around and angles flitting about. Still others attribute them to being mini-UFO’s, symmetrically perfect ghosts and, my personal favorite, big balls of dust (Orb Zone Theory).

Then, one idea I read struck me as particularly fascinating.

A researcher states he is inclined to believe orbs are not spirit at all. In his estimation an orb is the energy being transferred from a source (i.e. power lines, batteries…even humans). The spirit actually transfers the energy from whatever source so that it can manifest. There is speculation that the spirit may not even be consciously doing so, rather, just doing what comes naturally. Meaning, on the other side of the veil, all these spirits are running around nabbing energy wherever they can and are completely unaware we can see or photograph them.

It’s impossible to discount this idea however foreign it may sound. I mean, let’s face it, again, there is no ultimate authority on how these “types” of things work. In fact, maybe all of the hypotheses are correct.

In all of the dimensions and universes that exist, I don’t think it makes sense that everything works only one way. I believe the possibilities to be endless and, besides, wouldn’t it be boring if there were only “one” way?

    Hi Colette…
A few years ago I attended a Dreamhealer session in Calgary (www.dreamhealer.com). Adam presented pictures of his past sessions where the orbs were present at the seminars. Your essay reminded me of that and of the wonder I felt at the time. I believe there was a lot of positive energy present, coalesced by Adam and fed by the energy of the people in the room. Perhaps with your work and the connection of all those involved with you helps you to bring them into your space. Just a hunch.

    Hi Collette,

I have had orbs show up in photos that i have taken for the past 9 years and I am extremely fascinated with them also. They have shown themselves to me in dreams and I even saw one moving whilst taking a photo. One particular photo taken at my daughters christening showed the orb in the shape of a UFO. That one was amazing and since then they have appeared in various ways, what a blessing to be surrounded by these light beings. I will add that these photos have been with digital and non digital cameras. Many thanks for sharing your view on this amazing phenomena.

    Love and blessings,
    Pene

I’ve been seeing orbs in my own photos and those of others….(check out fb friends’ photos), for the past few years.

They tend to show up when there’s a celebration of some kind especially if music is involved. I’ve seen them transparent, opaque, small, large, and even some appear to have faces. I’ve also seen them appearing like bubbles being blown. I’m always amazed when I see them

Maybe it’s wishful thinking but I like to think of them as my loved ones who have passed on, joining us in celebration!
