Intuition 101: Take an Intuitive Leap of Faith!

By Colette Baron-Reid [ 29 March 2010 | 2,518 views | 14 Comments ]

womanTumblingInAirHow would your life change if you took more intuitive leaps of faith?

Maybe you’d like to make a career change, move to a new state or country, move forward with a relationship, or ask someone out on a date. Your intuition is telling you to have courage and go for it. Yet, your ego, Goblin, and even the people around you may be giving you a whole list of reasons why you shouldn’t make a change. Which guidance do you follow?

If you want to live a life of meaning and purpose, you need to go beyond the limits of how you’ve been taught to see the world and yourself. You need to have courage to reach out into the vast world around you and embrace the Divine energy that flows through you. Courage asks you to join your intellect and reason with intuition. It asks you to face your shadows and heal your wounds so that you can bring all of yourself into the light. (In my last blog Say Hello to Your Goblin: How to Let Go of Age-Old Blocks and Live Your Bliss!, I talked about our Goblins and wounded egos. So, if you didn’t do the Goblin exercise, now’s the time to have the courage to give it a try and quiet your ego mind.)

I’ve found that with each courageous step, my own life has become more rewarding and meaningful. In Remembering the Future, I talk a lot about courage and also share my own experience finding the courage to get sober and embrace my intuitive gifts. But, more recently, courage enabled my husband Marc and I to follow a series of signs and synchronicities to move from the bustling Canadian city of Toronto to Sedona, a tiny town nestled amongst towering red rock mountains in the high desert of northern Arizona. Our friends thought we were crazy to move to a completely new place. Though we were afraid and uncertain, we felt that we were being called to go there. So, we sold our home in Toronto, gave away much of our stuff, packed a small trailer, and drove five days to live in Sedona. We’ve now lived in Sedona for two years, and our lives have truly transformed for the better over that time. Living here has empowered us to grow, heal, and strengthen our connection with Spirit.

High JumpStepping out of your comfort zone can be scary and frustrating, but having the courage to do so puts you on your highest path and fortifies your connection with the Divine. In fact, you don’t even have to be comfortable with change. If you waited for all the fear to subside and all the what-ifs to become sure things, an entire lifetime would speed by before you found courage. You just have to have faith in your soul’s longing for meaning and trust that when you follow that guidance, Spirit protects you. In fact, when you have courage, Spirit often helps pave the way with synchronicities and signs.

In Remembering the Future, I share the following short story adapted from a poem by Christopher Logue in honor of Guillaume Apollinaire. It’s a beautiful expression of courage, and I’d like to invite you to print it out and put it somewhere to remind yourself that when you let Spirit push you, you’ll get wings.

the dancerHe said, “Come to the edge.”

I said, “I can’t; I’m afraid.”

He said, “Come to the edge.”

I said, “I can’t; I’ll fall off.”

He said, finally, “Come to the edge.”

And I came to the edge.

And he pushed me.

And I flew.

Exercise:

Take some time to journal this week about how courage has affected your life. When have you been courageous and acted on an intuitive hit? When have you ignored a call to take action? Is there an old wound that you’d like to have the courage to heal? What do you need to be courageous about right now?

Remember, if you let Spirit push you, you’ll get wings.

Be sure to share your experiences of courage. You never know who you might empower through your own personal story.

Love,
Colette

    Thank you!
2 years ago my husband and I, together with our 2 sons now 19 and 15 years old, moved away to a smaller town on the other side of our country.
We also had many reactions that were not al positive.
I am so glad that we did move.
We have been very happy here and really feel that everything has really fallen into place. As you say: Spirit has paved the way.
It has brought us a lot and we are very greatful!

    Wishing you love and light,
    Lae

Dear Colette, What a beautiful meditation! I had invisioned walking along a path as a warrior with my spear and many animals following me. I had come to a tree that illuminated with light when I touched it. I did jump and flew very high. I could feel the drumming through my body. Thank you for all of the blessings that you give people! Love Brenda

Thank you so much for this! It’s something I know, but still ignore due to old beliefs and negative conditioning. It’s like my family upbringing and society said: “here’s the path you need to follow” and I willingly created that cage and made myself stay in it. But that needn’t be the case. I’m finally beginning to step out and create the life I want to live.
Your words, examples, and meditations are truly inspiring.

Two years ago I moved from Ohio to Arizona. Of course, when I saw the I-10 sign that read Los Angeles, a part of me wanted to keep driving. I was so tired, I went to Arizona as scheduled and checked into my hotel. I often think about what would have been if I would have bought a GPS system and drove further to L.A. I have been feeling the pull to make some changes, and I’m ready. My goblin is saying “you must wait for something else to come in before you can release that which you outgrown.” I’m also feeling the pull to move again. I’m thinking CA…

When I met my “second” husband…right at the beginning of the blissfullness I looked at him and said “One day you will try to hurt me!”
6 years later, after a terrible break-up, he stalked me and threatened me with daily harassment. I took a leap-of-faith got down on my knees and looked to the heavens and said aloud~ “Please, God help me find my way out..” I found the courage to stand up to him and never allow him to hurt me physically, mentally, emotionally, and most importantly spiritually!! So many other times I have asked for “help”…Not listening to the important messages that I receive..I’m still a work-in-progress, but with your book I find so many similarities I cannot ignore what gifts have been given to me. I pray one day to meet you. Your book is truly inspiring!!Thank you so much..

Thanks for reminding me that following my intuition, even when it makes no logical sense, is how I am supposed to be living! I have had frightening “falling” dreams for the longest time and since I have been following my intuition, they have all but disappeared.

Hi, Colette. Taking that leap of faith can be like jumping into cold water. But once you get swimming it doesn’t feel so bad. My soul has been screaming for years for me to move to a new state…Maine, or to a rural area. Unfortunately, circumstances of life & lack of money prevent me from moving forward. I’ve been stuck, and in a very tumultuous, dark time for a while. My faith, now, is waiting for this cycle to end & trusting that Spirit will pull me through very soon. Love you, Colette. God bless. Beth.

Thank you Collette from a deep place within me. Your meditative journey has filled me with instinctive courage. I feel at peace, aware, and connected to my roots.

I am always amazed what happens when I have courage and face my fears. It’s to the point now that I get excited about moving through yet another wall, to discover what lies unknown & magical on the other side.

This article is old but I believe in March or April I had a dream of a particular actor telling me to take the “leap of faith” in reference to a dream I have been desiring for over a year and now by reading your articles monthly I am trying to work on this somehow and not be so negative about myself and others. I think it is ironic that now I come across it after all this time. I look forward to your monthly words and I am enjoying your book on symbols etc.
