What Messages Do these Sacred Sign-Bearers Have for You?
Imagine you’re walking along the beach, soaking up the sun and relishing the sand between your toes. You’re thinking about whether to leave your job and start your own company. Or, maybe you’re debating about whether to back into the dating pool after a tough break up. While you want to take the leap into the unknown, you’re afraid you don’t have what it takes. Suddenly a grasshopper appears from nowhere. It stops and chirps directly at your feet, as if trying to get your attention, and then it determinedly leaps ahead. You chuckle to yourself, thinking how odd it was to see a grasshopper in the midst of all the sand. Then you remember Colette’s/me recent blog about reverence and nature and how she/me has been encouraging you to pay attention to the world around you. This grasshopper had a message for you.
Living creatures are interactive spiritual beings with whom we have a collaborative relationship. Our companion animals, creatures in the wild, and us humans are all here to fulfill a sacred purpose. We’re all part of the Divine and connected through time and space. Just as messages from Spirit can come from other people through a cledon (which I discussed in my recent – The Cledon blog), guidance can also come through the living organisms around you. All creatures of the sky, water, and earth are your sacred sign-bearers and just waiting for you to notice them. I talk about animals as oracles extensively in my book, Messages From Spirit, and discuss many of their possible messages.
So, what Spirit messages have you received from the animals around you? We can each tune into the frequency of inter-species communication, and once we do, we’re often amazed by the messages they have for us. Let’s return to the example above for a moment. A bit more research into the symbolism of grasshoppers reveals that it is a symbol of good luck, taking a leap of faith, forward movement, and innovation. It was telling you to take the leap of faith, for carving out your own innovative path will bring good luck.
I’ve always believed that animals have souls that are wiser and more authentic than us humans. They are teachers, guides, and healers with us. I was surrounded by animals growing up, from dogs barking to birds flying around the house. It also seemed my mom was always nursing a wild animal back to health. Through the years, my dogs have helped me become a better person, and I share many stories of their messages in Messages From Spirit.
I recently experienced a very profound message about my new book, The Enchanted Map of You… Finding the Magic and Meaning in the Story of Your Life, which is due out in January 2011. I’d been immersed in writing the book for several months, but had started to feel stuck. I was juggling so many fascinating new ideas that I wanted to include! So, I was thinking about hiring a new editor to help me streamline the content. One day I meditated on the book and opened my eyes to see a beautiful hawk fly by my window and perch on my birdbath. 
I took the hawk as a sign that a message was coming and to pay attention. The next day, I received an email from a very popular editor who I’d contacted over a year prior. She apologized profusely that she’d never gotten back to me, but said she had space to work with me now. Ordinarily I would have skipped over her email since it had been over a year, but with the hawk in the back of my mind I replied. We’re now working together, and her skills were exactly what I needed.
Animal messengers have also helped me give guidance to clients. For example, I was recently doing a reading with one client whose family had split up. She wasn’t sure whether to approach her father, and I wasn’t getting a clear answer. So, I prayed for a sign. Just as I looked up, I saw a whole family of quail outside my office window. Quail are some of my favorite birds, and I’d been trying to get them to come to our birdbath since we moved into this new home months ago. It was significant that they showed up the moment I asked for a sign. Quail represent family connectedness and renewed faith in family.
Exercise:
Pray for guidance about something you’re struggling with. Then pay attention to the living creatures around you, for they’re always communicating with you.
You’ll know they’re giving you a significant message because you’re senses will be amplified, just like I talked about in How to Tune Into Soul FM blog.
Pay close attention to what your intuition is telling you. I give you a guide to many of the most powerful sacred sign-bearers in Messages From Spirit, and you can do a bit of research into what the creature symbolizes. But, be sure to trust your first reaction as well!!

A subject very close to my heart! Animals are amazing purveyors of messages. As we become more and more urbanized, it is more and more important to pay attention to creatures of nature.
I also get many, many messages from animals in the spirit world. Animals are so present and fully themselves in the world, so their messages can be read more clearly.

When my father was passing, I asked that if it was like I believed it was on the other side, that he send a red cardinal.. the state bird of North Carolina.. Wher he is from… It has been just over a year and I have had a cardinal in my backyard almost daily since.. Today there were TWO… after reading this… I know this is the Angels way of letting me know they are always with me, ..it’s just a sort of affrimation they send me with love… I call her or him “MY RED BIRD”
on another note, my daughter was up getting ready for work one morning and said what on earth is a penquin doing on my fence..[we live in Florida]after watching it for some time, it turned around and then back and then was gone.. as she was telling me this story, I told her that it was the 38th year to the hour of her brothers crossing… she had never met him but did some research and believes he was showing her she is protected from the other side… she is somewhat a skeptic but with everything happening here she is growing more and more open to what I believe with all my heart… And just a quick Hello to my Fido who is waiting for me… I will see you soon my precious little rescue dog… Thank you for letting me share here… I love you Colette.. Seven years ago on June23, 2003, My daughter lost her husband in a car wreck, very unexpected, and they had four little girls, Whitney 12, Timbre 9, Kyle 7, and Chase age 5. They were a very close family and Leroy was a very good husband, dad, brother , son and friend to everyone! My daughter, Delana, always liked to walk and sort of meditate, One day a few months after Leroy’s death, she was walking out in the country and talking to Leroy about how much she missed him, and said to him,”Leroy, if you can hear me give me a sign,just then a squirrel ran right in front of her and stopped! Right in front of her, to the point where she had to stop to keep from running into the squirrel! Now our family are all country people and know wild life really well! Leroy especially, and squirrels don’t do that! Leroy knew that and we took that to mean that was a sign from him saying,”Yes, Delana, I can hear you!”
I love this! I’ve been seeing hummingbirds constantly; they are so bright and beautiful…and their symbolism is right in line with where I am at this stage in my life.

This morning I saw another wild bunny, while dropping off my kids at school. All the kids were unable to catch it, but enjoyed following it. This is the second bunny I have seen this month. And it all started with me asking for Mother God to show me a sign that she is present and here! Wow!
A friend of mine knew he would die in his early twenties, because he had a bad heart and bad lungs, and needed a heart lung transplant in his twenties. (which the likelyhood of surviving a heart and lung transplant is not too likely). My point being, he told his relatives and friends that as a joke, when he dies, he is going to come around in spirit form, as a bird, and poop on peoples heads as a joke! ( He had a great sense of humour!) So at his funeral, there was Big Bird poop on his relatives car hoods, and during the funeral, a bird flew over head, and plopped bird poop right on his brother in laws shoulder! I think he made his point! He is alive and well in Heaven, and laughing on the other side!
My Cledon happened just the other day (Wed). I had posted on FB that it was a beautiful day to drive my son to guitar lessons. Only one person commented on my status and that was one of my friends from FL (I live in PA), and she isn’t on FB all of the time. Her comment was “Wear your seat belt.” A couple of weeks ago I noticed that my driver’s side buckle was giving me issues when I would try to buckle it. It buckled each time after trying so I paid no mind to it really and kept telling myself to have my husband look at it. Well, yesterday while leaving work, which is a 50 minute drive home, my seat belt would not latch at all. Needless to say, my ride home was quite unpleasant and I felt so unsafe. It still did not hit me until this morning in the wee hours of the morning that my friend had been sending me a message from spirit. Gotta love it. Now we are trying to get it into the shop this morning. Thank you Spirit!!

I have been using my (Collete’s) Oracle cards daily with a three card reading and journaling the results, and my thoughts regarding the results, on the reading. The weather today was beautiful and I decided to do my reading on the deck. Towards the end of my reading, six deer ran abruptly into my back yard, stopped and stared at me….I looked to the left and the right waiting for the coyote/animal that scared them into my yard. Waiting and waiting and nothing appeared. The deer continued to stare…..so, what message would deer represent as the living creatures in “Messages From Spirit”?
For me, years ago, I prayed to God and Mother God to show me signs if things were going to be okay, and frequently, I see “Blue Birds and “Red Birds” come to me very often. Especially, when I am sad. They keep me to remember that there is never a time, I am ever alone, and God, yes, God truly loves and cares about me. They let me know things will be okay, and that all things pass.
I also have a dear friend of mine, named Leslie, who was a lover of cats. After she passed this last year, when I am sad a cat or deer often appears!
I know it is her, letting me she is still HERE:) We are still very much friends!
