Psychic Readings & Predictions: Can You Change the Outcome?

By Colette Baron-Reid [ 2 April 2010 | 3,695 views | 21 Comments ]

psychicReadOver the years I’ve received tons of emails from people asking for my thoughts on predictions they’ve been given by different psychics. Some of the common questions are: What do you do if you get a negative prediction? Are predictions absolute or can you change them? Why hasn’t a particular prediction come true yet?

I’ve read for over 50,000 people in 29 countries over the last 22 years and have seen many predictions come true while others have changed due to free will. I’ve observed again and again that the future is a mutable (or changeable) place and isn’t written in stone for any of us. When I do a reading with a client, I see an outline of probable realities at the time of the reading. I look at the story of your life—the past, present, and potential future—at that moment.

I believe we all have a blue print that draws out the story of our fate and destiny, and that certain events and life experiences are preordained, but you still have the pen in your hands. If I tell someone that they need to stay conscious or they’re going to slip on a banana, and then they don’t stay conscious, they’re going to stumble on a banana.

The future is like a moving hologram that morphs as you evolve or don’t evolve.

Once we get the initial prediction, it seems we all want to know when it will happen. I always have to brace myself for this question because time is very difficult to predict. In the future, time is like a spiral not a straight logical line. Regardless of what is predicted you still need to be present to your life as it unfolds from the “now til the now” as you also run the risk of being too attached to a future that has not yet come to be. That’s always a hazard of clinging to the details of what someone says about your future.

Many people have also called my weekly radio program, The Colette Baron-Reid Show, for feedback about negative readings that have left them feeling hopeless and freaked out. Readings should empower you, not leave you worried about your future. Even if difficult information is being shared, it should be delivered with compassion and the reader should be able to show you an alternative path if there is one, or continue the reading to show what transpires after a difficult cycle ends.

Also remember that whenever you get a reading from anyone, you’re getting that psychic or intuitive’s perspective from a number of sources. The person using their psychic abilities on your behalf is going to read through a filter of their own life experience and personality. And, the reading is only as good as the connection between you and the reader. I always encourage people to get references for a psychic and to pay close attention to their intuition.

If you don’t feel a connection with the psychic or you have a bad feeling about the reading, then trust your inner voice.

psychicReaderSignFor example, I once had a very popular psychic tell me I would never have a relationship with a faithful man. In my heart, I knew that was not true, but it upset me so much it took me ages to shake it given my history. And, as you probably know, I’m now in a loving, very honest, trusting relationship with a completely faithful man. He also told me that I had reached the height of my career, and I should accept my path as someone who would never attain much. That was a year before I signed a record deal with EMI music followed by meeting Marc, then becoming a Hay House author. So was he wrong, or was it that his reading forced me to make changes in my life that aligned me with where I am today? I believe wholeheartedly in the statement “the act of observation changes that which is being observed.” What he said was impactful and a great impetus for deep inner work, which I did do. But I know about these things and many people do not, as they give power to the reading and accept it as finite.

Sometimes predictions are meant to wake you up.

Oracles can at times be like tricksters, especially when you aren’t listening to them and keep going back to get readings. I call this oracle abuse. In fact, as a general rule I won’t do more than two readings a year for my clients. When you get too many readings, you’re basically giving your power to the reader. If you keep asking for more signs and guidance through readings about the same subject over and over, the energy becomes desperate and all you see is what’s not there yet. You move from the reading empowering you to the reading fostering lack in your subconscious.

Readings should be treated with respect. Look to a reading as a means to track your course and to support what you already know or reveal what you may not know on your path. Remember the psychic is seeing what is potential and probable, but you still have to stay in the present and you can’t be a passive couch potato. You must take appropriate action and have faith that Spirit has a plan for you that may or not be revealed to you through a reading with a psychic. In the end, Spirit has the last say… not you or the psychic.

Exercise:

Are you getting caught up in a reading you had? Do you find yourself doing oracle card readings over and over about the same things? Even if these questions aren’t true for you, most of us have times when we need to let go and live more in the now. So, set an intention this week to go deeper into each moment and take action in the present. Then write down five steps to take this week, in the now. The actions don’t necessarily have to be about your future. You might need to clean out your closet and donate old clothes, start using sunscreen, or begin eating a healthy breakfast. Or, it may be time to get back to writing, sign up for a class, or do research on a career move.

Meditation is also an excellent way to keep yourself more at peace and in tune with the now. So take some time to meditate! Here is the Opening the Channels meditation from my Remembering the Future meditation package.

And, as a special gift to help you with your meditation practice, I’m offering my blog readers a special discount of 20% on my Journey Through the Chakras meditation CD. If you’d like to purchase it, please click here and use the coupon code… journey

Remember, the power is in your now and even small steps will open your future to exciting new possibilities!

Love,
Colette

Thanks Colette for this. After having a really negative reading a couple of weeks ago concerning when I would get pregnant, I felt it set me back and got me very depressed. After reading this, and had been feeling that she was wrong in her reading, I feel better and am working on knowing that I can’t control much, but what I can control is how I react to things.

Thanks again for this. It was very important!

I’m getting a reading on Sunday, and I can’t wait. I keep asking for guidance and “what is my next right action step?” but I don’t receive any messages. I feel like I’m being pushed to move (geographically speaking), but I’m not sure where. I’m going to make a list of questions and see what happens.

I really like this blog! I feel this will be very helpful to those who are desperately seeking answers or being given wrong advice. Psychics that claim there is a “curse” and you need to pay them extra money to get them to relieve it is just a way to get money and you shouldn’t listen. Just being given that information can make someone believe it and direct their lives.

I like the advice to listen to yourself! A lot of people put their hopes in the hands of others. Psychics cannot control your destiny. They can help you know things or head in a direction, but it is up to the person to make it happen. Thank you so much for this information :) I respect you for your honesty and positive messages!

I might be one of the few people who actually doesn’t mind getting negative predictions because I like to use psychic readings as a road map. If a psychic says something that I don’t want to hear and I know they are trustworthy, I take it as a sign that I have to take some steps to change that part of my life. So I look at where I might be going wrong and take positive steps to bring my desires to fruition.

I think it’s really important to pay attention to your intuition. When a psychic tells you something that does not resonate with you then don’t believe it. However, there’s a difference between that and being in denial (i.e. hearing something that is probably true but you just don’t want to accept it). Either way, the important thing is to realize that you can change the outcome of any situation by keeping positive and taking action!

I think this all really boils down to energy- don’t let a psychic reading make you feel negative and miserable and hopeless. That kind of energy will only attract negative things into your life. Being positive is key and even if you don’t like what they say, you can make your energy positive by realizing that ultimately it is you who is in driving seat of your life!

my reading experience was interesting..first was with acient chinese astrology and money which is quiet popular in Asian.Due to the culture, people believe psychics actually have some power to change people’s destiny by “witch craft”.so nobody know their real birthday in old time because the psychics told them to chnage and not let others know.Nowadays,Some people still believe it.

The first reading,I told him I would like to stay in abroad to study. He told me that would be hard to chieve. It was my dream to study in abroad,so I felt upset when he said that.I want to achive that I started save money and work hard….then now I live in London nearly 10 years. It was hard but I am glad of I didn’t listen to what did he say and give up my dream.

The second one was with a English lady, she said she couldn’t feel anything about my past..so she said I am a new soul but I knew she wasn’t right.

Third one looked like channelling sth I didn’t know but the result was negative she gave.of course it did upset me and thought about it all the times..then my behaviour match to what did she said.

Forth one was a stange middle age man,he used many different stuff to do the reading but I felt cold and headache when I went into his house…but nothing came out as he said.

Fifth one was I met on the road,he stopped me.I don’t know how did he do the trick know I had money in my pocket which I just got from my boss.He did the reading and had some kind of ability to know all my ex-boyfreinds name. One thing he was right in the predition but when it happened I wasn’t aware of it because the time he gave was wrong. So I have forgot what did he said not to do sth…but I did.I realised afterwards.

Now I seek to have another reading soon….^^

I have had accurate and inaccurate readings, and learned from both types! The accurate readings helped me understand my part in situations and how to move forward. They also tend to be confirmations of messages I was already receiving, and provide greater clarity about my purpose and role here on planet earth.

The inaccurate readings taught me about using my own discernment, not to be gullible and swallow someone else’s words whole (regardless of how accurate and respected they were supposed to be), and that we ALL have a lens of perception based on our own shadows, triggers, and life experiences, just like Colette said.

At the end of the day, I know a good reading if it resonates as truth in my body, and a good reader if they deliver information I may not want to hear in a kind and compassionate way. I completely agree with Colette, a good reading should leave one feeling empowered and clear about how to move forward (even if “moving forward” is about being in the present and accepting that things aren’t going to move forward for awhile!)

For me, readings are one of many tools I use to gain clarity, and at the end of the day I’m responsible for the reality I create.

At one of your shows, I received 3 or 4 VERY powerful cleadons that were clear and very accurate. The problem was, even though each one pertained to one particular area of my life, I felt so divided as to which one to go for. It’s tough with this one because I’m still sort of in it(love life). The best thing I can sa is this: A reading is empowering and the more readings I do for others, the more I begin to understand why the future is still in my hands.

    Collette,
I’ve had one reading with a gifted medium and it was one of the most powerful –and empowering– experiences of my life. It made me feel connected, responsible –and frankly, a bit overwhelmed to know, really know there is “another” world out there. And then, the Goblins appeared, and the need to challenge what I intuitively knew was the truth. Darn that stubborn streak in me! So, of course, things ended up exactly as they were supposed to end, only I extended “my lesson” a bit longer.
As for oracle cards, I have been guilty of oracle abuse of your Avalon of Wisdom cards. They are incredible, absolutely incredible, by the way. For instance, I stubbornly continue to ask about a past relationship . . .over and over and over. And I continue to get the Bard and Mystery cards, pretty much all of the time! So I am trusting that there are some things I’m not supposed to know, and I am finally letting it go.

    Hi colette,

I completely ressonate with the experience of psychic information sometimes being ‘wrong’ in order to catalyze and birth connection with my own deep inner knowing of my own truths.

I have a deeply trusted intuitive teacher who I have had 3 readings with and have taken classes with. During a particularly confusing set of circumstances, I set up a reading to help me connect with what Spirit was saying to me through the events of my life.

Spirit had been asking me to trust my own guidance and intuition instead of relying on external sources. I was being bombarded with external ‘advice’ regarding the circumstances I found myself in. The reading validated much of what my soul already knew…but there was a quality to one issue that I felt wasn’t fitting. Looking back on the reading now and what I was and am learning, I realized that Spirit used even my trusted teacher to further teach me to listen to my own souls guidance. That in end, it is my own experience and truth that I trust. Stepping into that increasingly feeds my sense of trust in myself and my ability to navigate difficult and confusing situations in partnership with Spirit. I respect the usefulness of the Tricksters lessons more and more!

I do agree re: psychic reading, positive or negative, I believe they are an opinion, but bottom line is one’s “gut feeling or intuition that counts. I had my share or “psychic readings”, positive or negative”, and I’ve learned not to put to much weight on them. Things happen for a reason, and I am learning to meditate and pray before I make a decision, whether is a life changing one or a simple one, I rely on my spirit sense more than on anybody else’s.

Everyone has a compass, we need to learn to use our gifts more and rely on others less.I always say when in doubt, don’t do anything at all and just wait…to see what happens.

On a related subject: I’ve sometimes wondered if there are certain things that are veiled or shielded from psychics. If there is information about your future that would stop you from getting to where you need to be in life (even if it is positive like you were going to win the lottery some day), is it possible that some or most psychics would not be able to see this information?

First,I love your cards! I had a reading today and I’m bummed out BUT after reading your article it is what my own intuition has been telling me! I feel you hit the nail on the head! The reading I had was upfront and just said the same thing in a different format for me to wake up and smell the coffee. Great article and apparently something I need to read!

l have had many readings over the years, some good, some not so fabulous. l always go in with an open mind knowing that these people are doing the best that they can do and l take from each reading what feels right for me. l don’t live my life by everything that they say but l am aware of the information that they have given me. l have had plenty of aha moments weeks, months or even years after a reading. Take the information as guidance needed at that time from your energy at that time. Take on board what feels right for you and get on with your life as before. You never know, the tall dark man that you are supposed to meet may be the bestfriend of the blonde guy you met at a pub. l suppose what l mean is don’t just say yes to the dark tall men you meet because that could be stopping you from finding the blonde guy that introduces you 2 your true love. Thanks so much Colette for this very helpful and informative blog. After reading your advice, my very first psychic reading, one that I had over 30 years ago, popped in my mind. It was a negative one as the psychic reader told me that I would have two sons, one that would be with me for a very long time and the other would leave me at a very young age (I was only a teen then and wasn’t married or had children yet). I could remember so clearly how I wanted so badly to ask if she meant that the one leaving me very young would leave me to death but I didn’t. Years later I did have two sons two years apart, and always wondered about who would leave me early and always hoping that it wouldn’t be to death. Unfortunately, my first one did die too young at the age of 25 to heart failure. My younger son is 28 and still living with us and probably will never move out as we have made it too comfortable for him partially because he is our only earth child. On a positive note, my husband, son and I have had a beautiful personal reading with psychic/medium John Holland. He brought through our son with so many validations. This expeience has made us whole again and brought us so much hope where there was none. Also, we are so honored that John has put our story in his new book, “The Spirit Whisperer”, in the chapter “The Children” and titled “Nick’s Gift”. I hope our story helps to inspire and heal others, especially those who have gone through a loss of a child, just as you and John do everyday with your beautiful gift from God.
    Love & Hugs,

I recently had a reading I considered somewhat inaccurate, from a psychic that I consider trustworthy.

It almost felt like she was reading “me” two months ago. Lots of the things predicted were things I had done deep work on and released about a month ago.

Colette, is it possible that a psychic reads your energy as you were in the recent past, not on the day that she is reading you?

It took me a couple of days to get back on track with feeling confident in my own intuition. I found that my FEELINGS had to be my guide about what I thought she said was accurate for me or not. It was a valuable lesson about trusting myself, and not giving my power over, even to someone I trust.

    Hello Colette,
My experiences vary from “Wow that’d be great” to more therapy.
Predictions is what I am looking for. I do enjoy them a lot.

I have had many readings for over 15 years (I am 53). 1st time ever was a man and he was very right on. I met that fantastic guy with that huge smile, family oriented, and he had plaid on that day.
Then throughout the years many readings with zero outcome. One lady I connect with – I thought has predicted many things (big influx of $$ to me is one) not happened as of yet.
Then I went to 2 different ones in Cincinnati ~ and paid large fee. All I got from the lady (who is very well know here) was just a therapy session with a couple predictions for almost $400.
Another (man) said some negatives then was so basic and a therapy session again. Frustrating to me. I have played back readings and 2/3 of the tape is on therapy …
Is there such readings where I can ask:
“What do you see me doing?”
“If I am meant to teach & heal ~ then what?”
“Is there someone in my future I will connect with in business?”
“Will I have my own business the abundance to retire us early?”
When I ask that — I was told to start selling on Ebay… and another mentioned Mona Vie might work for me. Not that he saw me selling it, but a ‘pitch’.

I’ve been told to use my gut …. Colette ~ my gut ideas and dreams and goals have lead me into bad financial decisions…
So my issue I guess is “how can I trust my intuition anymore?” I have truly felt instinct from my gut … ahhh! I do believe there are people who have the gift (wish it was me) … so I’ve had the good and the not so good. Cathy

    Dear Collette,

Two years ago I had a negative reading from a well known psychic regarding my grandson. She said he had a chemical imbalance and I had better get him help immediately othewise he would self medicate and the outcome would be disastrous. My grandson is okay – not on medication and is taking baby steps in a positive direction.

Thank you, Colette, for reconfirming that our paths can change.

Hi, What a great Blog, I read it with great interest, as I am very interested in topics on this subject, probably mainly because I am always after that one trusted reading, My first experience with a clairvoyant was OK, she mentioned things about work which did come true, but then the kind of seasonal town I lived in it was a 50 50 chance that I might have to be looking for another job soon, but one thing she said to me that has stayed with me for years is that I will never have any money, I will always just get by. I found this upsetting and it still gets to me today – 15 years on – and it is true, I do only just get by, so has her comment harmed me for all these years!!

I did then have another reading many years later, I had been invited round to a friends house, there was about 6 of us and two clairvoyants, and we were making a night of it, I went first to the younger one, she mentioned a few things but it was all about my past, the only thing she said of relevance about my future was saying about my friend having a white car and he should sell it, very strange comment but my friend had bout a white small van and was selling it, and a few weeks later had sold it, and the van then had all sorts of problems, so my friend was very lucky, someone really was looking out for him.

I thought well she is good so my friend and I booked her and she came over to do a reading for us both, and she just couldn’t do the readings, she couldn’t read my friend at all, and she repeated alot of what she had already covered with me and that was my past, nothing for my future. which made me think maybe someone had told her things about me and that is how she knew what to say that night I had first met her.

There seems to be a real lack of clairvoyants in the ara I live, I really would love to find someone that can give me an accurate readinf, I have spent money over the years on clairvoyants trying to get an insight and it has failed miserably.

If anyone can truly let me know of someone that could give me a true reading pklease tell me, I am at a stage in my life when I good do with an insight but I don’t want to waste money on more of what I have already encountered.

    Thanks.

I guess my question is , are mediums supposed to leave someone with a scary sense of forboding?”
