This article is the final installment in my series predicated on the Avatar movie.

In Avatar and Messages From Spirit (part one) I urge you to see the Avatar movie so you might experience its incredible depth of spirituality which I believe to be unparalleled by any other film in history.

In Avatar and Messages From Spirit (part two) I write about some of the spiritual foundations upon which I believe Avatar to be predicated and address some of the more subtle messages from Spirit found in the movie.

In Avatar and Messages From Spirit (part three) I write about how the Avatar movie is an immeasurable catalyst. The buzz about this film is off the charts and Avatar is now a contender to surpass Titanic as the highest grossing movie of all time.

Avatar is being dissected by religious and spiritual factions in all four corners of the Earth.

On that note and as a quick aside…I find it very interesting, in terms of numerology, the Na’vi have four ‘fingers’ and four ‘toes’. The number four, symbolically speaking, is a very profound number. There are four seasons (Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall), directions (North, South, East, West) and elements (Earth, Air, Fire, Water). When the four sides of a square work together and remain strong, there is no more stable or sturdy structure. And, if you’ve seen Avatar, you’ll know how connected to nature the Na’vi are and how, when they bond together, what they accomplish.

Do you think James Cameron chose that number deliberately or is it a cledon sent from Spirit?

These are the kinds of subtle signs Spirit sends us and these are the things I think and teach about.

But what this final article on Avatar is really all about is the etymology of the word “Pandora” (the Na’vi’s home planet) and how befitting the name is in light of the world wide commotion over this one “little” movie.

There are cries in the media that Avatar is a racist movie. Now there is speculation James Cameron ripped the whole thing off from a popular Russian sci-fi series entitled The World of Noon or Noon Universe.

Even the Vatican put out an official statement about the Avatar movie.

The Vatican!

Now, most are at least somewhat familiar with the Greek myth of Pandora.

What, generally, is remembered was that she opened a box filled with all the evils of the world thereby releasing doom and destruction upon mankind.

However, when recalling the myth, few remember that Pandora slapped shut the box when she realized what was being released and one “thing” was left in “Pandora’s Box”.

Hope.

For this reason, and this reason alone, it is my contention the name Pandora could not be a more perfect name or cledon for that matter.

The Avatar movie has unleashed a torrent of debate. Certainly that debate has spurned arguments, ill will and all manner of negativity. Not because of the movie, itself, but because mankind is still struggling against remembering who we really are – where we’ve truly come from.

And that is where all the ills of the world stem from.

In a fashion, it can be hypothesized these are the ‘evils’ released from Pandora’s Box. Those ‘things’ which our egos created to keep up separated from Spirit.

Avatar is jogging our collective memory – our collective consciousness – thus causing the upheaval.

I am encouraged to see many are awakening and heeding the call from Spirit communicated to us via the Avatar movie and all its beautiful messages.

However, given the maelstrom of negativity in the press about the same, I accept we have a long way to go before we, all, remerge with Spirit.

No matter.

See, there was still one very important ‘thing’ left in Pandora’s box.

Hope.

I wasn’t surprised about the comments made by the Catholic church. That’s all I say on that matter. I wasn’t surprised about the racist comments about the movie either. The racist comments are ironic since there are other movies on the market right now who have heroes and heroines from different races. I’ll look up the Russian Sci-Fi series because this is the first time I’m hearing about it.

It’s amazing how one little movie can cause people to up-in-arms over it. Perhaps they’re experiencing a “mirror or shadow” reflection. If people are very upset by this movie, they may want to examine their thoughts and belief system.

    Excellent!

Have you thought about interviewing James Cameron? I would love to hear/see an interview with him from your perspective. Something to think about!

The comment made by the Vatican only tells me that “Avatar” has raised some serious insecurities and fear for them, so much so that they needed to “defend” their beliefs. If they didn’t feel threatened, there would be no comment!
I find it curious that the Vatican needed to make a comment about showing reverence and respect to Nature, knowing that God created it/us ALL! This is no surprise as to how linear and one dimensional their comment was. So once again, Well Done “Avatar”!

Colette, seriously think about an interview with James Cameron! It will be amazing!!

Hi its me Tantra Shergill from facebook. If we include our thumb as the fifth element ether, the hidden element that most of us debate over whether it exists or not and have yet to be part and connected on a collective level some say, after 2012 and if you look at our thumb on the inside it is cut off in to two sections which some say are meant to represent the male and female, and our fingers are cut into three sections the three modes of the elements fixed, mutable and cardinal of the elements Fire, Earth, Air, Water

And in Tantra its only through this union can we fully link to our true self and transform into the highest Avatar/ Dhakini we are meant to be and can evolve to in our lifetime. Maybe James felt the Na’vi only need four fingers as they represent the celestial beings in the etherical realms and so need no extrafinger as we do as a reminder of our true spiritual journey or quest the one every individual is meant to embark on at some point in life. So maybe our thumbs are what the Na’vi are hinting at. The missing element. The key to our future.

    I see you.

Yes, an interview with James Cameron would be insightful. As to the Vatican, I can only say that faith needs no defense. I am a Christian. I love Avatar.

I love how this movie allows us to explore its message without feeling preached to, because it speaks to something deep within each of us. I think of Luke with Darth Vader when he says that he can feel the good within him, its not gone, that Darth has just forgotten it. And that is what this movie does, allows us to remember that which is deep within us, our connection to the universe, to the Earth and all its creatures, to the trees and the grass and water, and, more importantly, to each other. It is that part of us that we sometimes loose sight of in this crazy world, but that if you think about is right there in front of us all the time. I think of my father and mother and how I am a piece of them and how they are pieces of their fathers and mothers, and on and on back into time. All those connections branching out (like a tree, a family tree) and I imagine how connected each and every one of us must be and you can almost see the Adam and Eve, we all come from one source, story being true.

I see you. Namaste. God bless.

This is now one of my most favourite movies and I have seen it four times and look forward to seeing it again real soon!

The parallels between its messages and my own beliefs are reaffirming and reassuring. To me this is one big sign from source that I am on the right track.

The big message that I got from this movie is that all intentions that are based on love will always be backed by the Universe, not intentions that are based on power and greed.

    With Love and Gratitude Rachel

Two nights before I saw Avatar, I had a dream about Pandora’s Box opening with things that I could not identify flying out of it at lightening speed. I remember pushing with all my might to close it. That is all I remember of the dream. Greek mythology is not something I am familiar with in the slightest. When I saw the movie, I knew my dream was no accident. I left the theater feeling more connection and hope than I have ever felt. I was changed. My body felt different. Suddenly I understood what it meant to feel on a cellular level. The following day I did some research on Pandora, only to discover that, what I was salvaging in the box was in fact, hope. Absolutely everything made sense. It took one movie, to bring the missing piece of understanding. To truly feel with every cell in my body, what my mind and heart knew. A gift beyond measure.

The very basis for the movie is about connectedness and a true sense of love and respect for all things. Religious and racial debates will continue long after this movie begins collecting dust on a shelf. Seriously, the point is that the message surpasses race and religion and who’s right and who’s wrong. Isn’t it supposed to bring us back to that one thing?…. “I AM”.

Thanks Colette for providing many validations for my personal experience. I enjoyed your thoughts immensely. Much love!

    Wow,
So glad I read your blog. Last Monday, I was urged intuitively after watching Golden Globes to see Avatar. All I could say after seeing it was,
How could someone (James Cameron) say to millions of viewers, “I’ll make it short, I have to go pee” create such a genius masterpiece. I guess he did. I, too, was fascinated by the many spiritual metaphors of the movie. I enjoyed reading your interpretation. Might I also add that several months ago, I went to work for a friend selling Pandora jewelry, the biggest selling item at Christmas. At that time I wondered why am I in this Pandora world?

    Yes colette ,

We really have to keep understanding the connections with all so that we understand each other and the hope is the faith we are longing to have and sustain through challenges that we meet not to lose our self .
The hope makes me feel very positive as no matter how our brain makes it look bad on the surface i feel positive thats its going to be okay.

    Colettte,

I have also so enjoyed your comments about Avatar!

I totally thought the movie was very shamanistic in nature. As you said, the movie emphasize the number 4, with the seasons, the directions, and structures.

Avatar is also very shamanistic as shamanism is found in every culture and transcends religion and race. Shamanism works with all the nature energies and spirits of the world and nature. Shamanism is about remembering and honoring the connectness of all things.

It tickled me that those people who are totally out of touch with “why I am here” on earth, will go and see this movie only because it is a blockbuster, and only because James Cameron made it. These people will go to the movie for the “wrong” reasons, but they will see it nonetheless, and hopefully they will start to remember.

I really hope it affects our culture as deeply as I think it could.

There’s that word “hope” from Pandora’s box. We definitely need as much of that as we get, especially in regard to our Earth.

Colette, At the end of the movie Jake changes into an Avatar. It reminds me of what you were saying at the Invizion seminar in October about the caterpillar in the cocoon needing to “die” to become the butterfly. And how personal change for us can feel that way. But becoming an Avatar is way more exciting!!! That I can wrap my imagination around even more! Just wanted to share. And many thanks for all of your insights!

If, as Henry Beston wrote, we are “fellow prisoners of the splendour and travail of the earth,” then “Avatar” portrays how we still introduce that travail into paradise through our disconnection. It also, hints at how we may move towards splendour in the emergent reconnection and love of an embryonic fusion culture.
