If, as Henry Beston wrote, we are “fellow prisoners of the splendour and travail of the earth,” then “Avatar” portrays how we still introduce that travail into paradise through our disconnection. It also, hints at how we may move towards splendour in the emergent reconnection and love of an embryonic fusion culture.

Colette, At the end of the movie Jake changes into an Avatar. It reminds me of what you were saying at the Invizion seminar in October about the caterpillar in the cocoon needing to “die” to become the butterfly. And how personal change for us can feel that way. But becoming an Avatar is way more exciting!!! That I can wrap my imagination around even more! Just wanted to share. And many thanks for all of your insights!

I have also so enjoyed your comments about Avatar!

I totally thought the movie was very shamanistic in nature. As you said, the movie emphasize the number 4, with the seasons, the directions, and structures.

Avatar is also very shamanistic as shamanism is found in every culture and transcends religion and race. Shamanism works with all the nature energies and spirits of the world and nature. Shamanism is about remembering and honoring the connectness of all things.

It tickled me that those people who are totally out of touch with “why I am here” on earth, will go and see this movie only because it is a blockbuster, and only because James Cameron made it. These people will go to the movie for the “wrong” reasons, but they will see it nonetheless, and hopefully they will start to remember.

I really hope it affects our culture as deeply as I think it could.

There’s that word “hope” from Pandora’s box. We definitely need as much of that as we get, especially in regard to our Earth.

We really have to keep understanding the connections with all so that we understand each other and the hope is the faith we are longing to have and sustain through challenges that we meet not to lose our self .
The hope makes me feel very positive as no matter how our brain makes it look bad on the surface i feel positive thats its going to be okay.

Wow,
So glad I read your blog. Last Monday, I was urged intuitively after watching Golden Globes to see Avatar. All I could say after seeing it was,
How could someone (James Cameron) say to millions of viewers, “I’ll make it short, I have to go pee” create such a genius masterpiece. I guess he did. I, too, was fascinated by the many spiritual metaphors of the movie. I enjoyed reading your interpretation. Might I also add that several months ago, I went to work for a friend selling Pandora jewelry, the biggest selling item at Christmas. At that time I wondered why am I in this Pandora world?

Two nights before I saw Avatar, I had a dream about Pandora’s Box opening with things that I could not identify flying out of it at lightening speed. I remember pushing with all my might to close it. That is all I remember of the dream. Greek mythology is not something I am familiar with in the slightest. When I saw the movie, I knew my dream was no accident. I left the theater feeling more connection and hope than I have ever felt. I was changed. My body felt different. Suddenly I understood what it meant to feel on a cellular level. The following day I did some research on Pandora, only to discover that, what I was salvaging in the box was in fact, hope. Absolutely everything made sense. It took one movie, to bring the missing piece of understanding. To truly feel with every cell in my body, what my mind and heart knew. A gift beyond measure.

The very basis for the movie is about connectedness and a true sense of love and respect for all things. Religious and racial debates will continue long after this movie begins collecting dust on a shelf. Seriously, the point is that the message surpasses race and religion and who’s right and who’s wrong. Isn’t it supposed to bring us back to that one thing?…. “I AM”.
