The Cledon: How to Get More Powerful Divine Guidance in Your Everyday Life
One of my favorite spiritual phenomenas to talk about is the cledon. It’s a message from Spirit that is innocently and unknowingly delivered to you by someone or something else. And, once you tune into the cledons all around you, you’ll be truly amazed at the personal and powerful messages Spirit has for you.
Though the word “cledon” sounds a little bit star trek-ish, it’s a concept that actually originated in ancient Rome. For our ancestors in the Roman Empire, it was common practice to pray to the gods for guidance and then go out into the world to get a message. People expected to get their insight from Apollo through day-to-day interactions; for example, they’d overhear a conversation between strangers at the local market, or a friend would unknowingly deliver a message over dinner.
We still receive cledons all the time today. You might hear a conversation at the mall in which two random strangers say just what you need to hear. Or, perhaps you’re having lunch with a friend who says something that answers your question on what to do next in your career. You may even be listening to me do a reading with a caller on my radio show or with someone at one of my events and just know that what I told them is also a message for you. (I get many fascinating emails from radio listeners and event attendees who have had this experience. I love hearing them!) Common cledons can come from other people, songs on the radio, the T.V., and billboards.
Here’s an example of one of my own recent cledons. It was actually pretty amazing when it happened. I was in LA with my husband at breakfast. At the time, I’d been wrestling with becoming a vegetarian; I’d just read Skinny Bitch and saw an upsetting video on factory farming and dairy cows. I wasn’t sure that the milk in my coffee was organic and wondered if the cows that produced the milk were treated well. I mentioned this to my husband while we were sipping coffee, and he said, “Why don’t you pray about it or ask for a sign?” So, I asked Spirit for a sign. Just a few seconds later, this little girl not even yet two years old had sat at the next table with her father and she started looking at me and saying “No!” Her father profusely apologized to us saying, “She never does this. I’m so sorry!” I was taken aback because little kids and puppies always respond well to me. Even my husband said how weird it was. Then the little girl looked right at me and loudly exclaimed: “MAD COW!” Well, her father was beyond shocked and turned to her to ask, “Where did you learn those words?” The little girl just looked at me giggling and smiling and then turned to her dad and continued on as if nothing had happened. I have since only used organic soymilk in my coffee and have become pretty vigilant about only eating cruelty-free animal products. This is only one story among the many cledons I’ve experienced.
So, how do you know you’re getting a cledon? Your sense will be heightened in a noticeably different way. It will feel like truth amplified. For instance, you may experience a heightened feeling and suddenly in that moment you’ll just know intuitively that what you overheard was a message for you. Or, you may experience more sensitive hearing; perhaps the radio will suddenly seem louder during a song with a message that Spirit intends especially for you. When you receive a cledon, it’s as if Spirit knows exactly what’s on your mind and addresses it.
Of course, Spirit does know what’s going on because it’s part of you. It lives in you as your higher self, and your intuition is your connection to the Divine. Spirit is what made you and its highest desire is to help you manifest your utmost life experience. Remember that Spirit is always communicating with you and looking out for your best interest. So, as long as you ask for guidance, you’ll receive a message. Spirit, however, decides the how, when, and what. And, of course, you will not necessarily get the answer you want.
Exercise:
Take a moment today to ask Spirit for a message about something you’d like guidance on. (For example, your career, love life, finances, a decision you need to make, etc.)
Now, continue to go about your life and trust that Spirit will send you a message in Divine appropriate timing. Sometimes you’ll get a cledon right away, but other times it will come a few weeks later. Just have patience and trust Spirit will answer you.
I’d also like to encourage you to start a journal and begin recording the messages Spirit sends you. In future blogs, I’ll share more ways for you to communicate and receive guidance from Spirit. So, be sure to start a journal and you’ll be truly amazed at how you’re never alone—the Divine is always guiding you to your perfect destiny.

That is AMAZING! That story about the little girl! I have always looked for cledons–my whole life, really. It has always been instinctual, or something. I am such a fan of the concept of cledons. When you talk about them before your lectures, I am always amazed and excited to hear my own. I received 4 the last time I saw you and ALL FOUR came to pass!
I am definately going to start including the topic of cledons in my work. Sometimes,I view them as electric cords of sorts, that connect us to spirit even when we haven’t actively called out for an answer. Thanks Colette–love to you, sister.

I cracked up while reading this, because I have been walking the fine line of decisiveness on becoming vegetarian.
Not only did your story make me pause, but earlier when I went out to get my dinner at the restaurant down the street…the girl in front of me and behind me ordered a veggie burger (I only had sweet potato fries)…and now as I write this HOUSE is on the TV in the back ground and the couple in the opening scene are arguing about weather eating salmon is considered still being a vegetarian!!!

This is unreal. I have been experiencing some bizarre stuff lately and it was ever since i got sick. It was like I was forced to slow down and not do anything. Then my dreams starting being more vivid then usual and every day when i woke up i would have this feeling that something big would happen, but emotional.
Then i was contacted by my Godson who i haven’t seen or talked to in over 13 years. He wants to see me and were going to get together. Spirit does truly work in amazing ways…even if we don’t fully understand it at first.

Ok, here’s my favorite Cledon from few months ago:
I had just submitted an art piece for a major anniversary show in L.A. and was very anxious to get it accepted.The day I was to receive the notification I was driving in my car and was so tense and nervous that I declared aloud that the first song playing on the radio will be my cledon.
Pushed the button and heard:..”I am a loser baby-y-y, why don’t you kill me?!!!
I burst laughing so hard I was crying!! my whole anxiety was wiped in a second and didn’t care anymore- I just knew my guides had given me a perfect answer for all the times I stress needlessly.
p.s. My piece was accepted and the show was a big success but my cledon became way more memorable:)))

Thanks for the reminder. I’ve been doing my best to become vegetarian. I haven’t had red meat since 1989 so I’m good in that respect. I drink soy milk. I don’t care for turkey (Thanksgiving kind), but sometimes I buy turkey burgers (I know). I don’t like pork, and I’m doing my best to wean myself off of chicken. I’ve been eating a lot of cheese lately; I forgot what it means when you eat a lot of dairy.
What if you hear something and you’re not quite sure if it’s a cledon? I listen to the show and sometimes think a caller’s reading pertains to me, but I’m not sure. Sometimes I think it’s “wishful” thinking or I want to hear what I want to hear. How do you truly know if you receive a cledon?
I have learned, from you to listen to my cledon and it is unbelievable how much it helps! Listening to it actually led me to the wonderful job I have now! Also the meditations I do with your CD ” MESSAGES fROM SPIRIT” is awesome!!!
Just before I saw this blog, I called someone and was the cledon. After sharing, her words were….I keep asking and can’t get any guidance on this…I don’t hear the guidance.
I said, \Ahem, um, perhaps this call is the guidance.\
She laughed.
Everything is energy. We give and receive messages constantly. I encourage people to seek the messages, give the messages and most importantly be the message.

Cledon has been how I have received a large part of my guidance in life. I know or feel the truth of the guidance immediately. I’ve also asked questions and received guidance that was not “what I wanted”. So I repeated the question and received the answer that I wanted and knew immediately that it was not true. This was important because not only did I finally recognize the truth, but I also knew that I was loved enough to be told what I wanted to hear so that I could recognize the truth on my own.

My most recent cledon is actually related to your radio show. I was struggling with one personal question and felt really stuck and hopeless. I had just discovered Hay House Radio (it was in last December) and decided that I will listen to whatever show is airing right now and hope to hear the answer. This happened to be your radio show and you were giving a reading to someone. As soon as I started to listen, i understood that you are talking to me too. It was so strange, you were giving advice on exactly the same problem that I had and you were so specific, even the small details matched. When you told to the caller that you think that she’s a Cancer like you are, then I started to laugh, because that’s my zodiac sign. So that evening I got the answer and help that I really needed and found my favorite radio show ever!

I was reading this and it made me wonder. I have this happen to me all the time and I do my best to listen. ( when I am not being too stubborn) But I have a really strange thing that happens to me a lot and i can never seem to explain it. I will be in the middle of a conversation with something and then suddenly I will say something like.. .I don’t know why but something tells me I am supposed to tell you this..And then I will say something. But If they ask me to repeat it I never can remember what it is I said. It’s just gone… Does that make sense?

In October 2009, I had a reading done with you. You had told me a about the finches and the one red cardinal that come by your bird feeders. You had also, compared me to this one different red cardinal.
Once in a while, a red cardinal or two will come by my family’s backyard. Since I live in the city, seeing a cardinal is a rare instance, as well as an exciting experience. Lately, I’ve been feeling a bit over whelmed with school work and I just haven’t been believing in myself. Yesterday, while I was driving home from school, a red cardinal flew past my front car window. It was such a wonderful experience and such a great reminder of your words. I felt inspired and like the cardinal represented faith, courage, and hope. I’m pretty sure it was spirit sending me a cledon.
Experiencing a cledon is truly an amazing experience.

I had seen a blog on your facebook page, that a person had asked God for a sign, and the answer was seeing a bunny and two baby bunnies underneath her; right in her own back yard!
So I decided to ask Mother God to show herself to me in the next week, in nature somehow. Something unusual that you don’t see every day. Time went on, and I forgot about it. But later on that week, I was pushing my grocery cart toward my car, and right in the middle of the city, in the parking lot, was a small white bunny! I don’t know how it got there. And it was hopping and happy and free. We lost track of the bunny under all of the parked cars, somewhere. But I felt blessed to have witnessed, a quick and unuaul sign from Mother God. I have not seen a wild bunny in years!
Stephanie, I would like to comment on your comment. I could be wrong. But it sounds like you are channelling. My daughter does this sometimes. She just says an answer to a question that I have been thinking of. Or she will make up a song, and in the spontaneously made up lyrics, she says an answer to my question that I have been thinking of. She did this more so when she was 3 and 4 years old. Then I ask her to repeat what she just said. And she can’t remember. Funny how that happens.
I love this post! I post about these occurences in my own life on my blog, but I didn’t know they had an actual name until today.
I recently asked for one while I was watching the movie “Alice in Wonderland”. I asked the Universe “Okay, if I’m really crazy for thinking like this, you’d better give me a sign to let me know….”
The next thing I knew Alice was saying “Oh I’m afraid you’re totally bonkers…but all the best people are!”
This is one of my favourite cledons ever!

I live in Norway and when I read your blog about signs I thougth about some I have been given in quite difficult periods of my life.
The first really clear sign was at the time when I struggled in my relationship, I was living toghether whit my boyfriend in his house whith my to children. But things was not god. I had another house that I owned, the house that I really felt was home, and I felt that I had to leave him and move back to my house. But with to children and many years of common history with him it was not an easy decition. One day I sat in the livingroom in my house, noboby lived there at the time. And I was so sad and confused about what to do. And then my eyes felt on a IKEA catalogue on the table, and the only thing I saw was the words on the back of it (not sure how to express i it english but something like): Get yourself home,or come home. I just felt in all of my body, an the tears came from my eyes. I really felt that it was telling me I was doing or thinking of doing the rigth thing.
So I moved back to my house, and have not regreted that for a moment. And about a year after this I wanted to sell my house and buy a smaller home,and it was a particular area of the city I wanted to live in, actually a special street. But how long should I wait for a house on sale there?? One day on my way home from work there was this amazing rainbow, and as I drove on I suddenly started to thing about this place I wanted to live. And it came into my mind that if that rainbow goes down in that street thats a sign to me. I had to take another way to get there, and the rainbow suddenly was gone, but then I did see it again. But it was in a totally wrong direction. And then it was gone again. So I laughed a little about my self and justs continued on the way home, but had to pass the street which I wanted to live in on the way. Then when the road made a turn and I could see straight out the street there was the biggest and most colourful rainbow I have ever seen. Going down in one of the houses >I really wanted. Today I live here in the \rainbow\ house, it came for sale just about one month later!! And this signs gives you such wonderful feelings, you just know what it is.
This became a long letter, but I hope my english is to understand!

Wow this was informative. I have never heard of cledons! I have known of angel thoughts or sings and messages from God, especially in the form of birds, but this is a good word too. I will look for them now as the form of a cledon even though that name sort of is intimidating.
Hopefully I can be the message or messenger one day to someone, by my paintings or my writings. I need to get the names of my works on my website now more than ever.

One of my favorite cledons happens during times of my life when I’m struggling with something I’ve thought too much about and I’ve begun to lose perspective. When that happens, I wake up in the morning with a line from a song going through my head-the same line, over and over. Lately it’s been the line, \You don’t have to be a star, baby, to be in my show.\ It reminds me that I don’t have to work so hard to be perfect-I already am. I just have to relax and remember that and allow my life to flow.
Not long ago I was stopped in traffic at a stop light by my house. A young man was walking past me on the sidewalk bouncing his basketball. The familiar rhythmic bouncing made me think of my oldest son who was a basketball fanatic. How many times had he walked that same sidewalk home from the park, always bouncing his ball? Even at 25,when he died suddenly and unexpectedly, basketball was still his passion. I told him out loud how much I loved him and missed him. Almost as quickly as those memories flooded my mind, I thought of his younger brother, still living, who also spent many years at that park playing basketball and that it was unfair of me to only associate basketball with one and not the other. It was then that I looked up at the van in front of me. It was a plumbing truck. The name was George Brothers. My oldest son’s name? You guessed it,… George!
Oh this is too funny, I love cledons and like one of the comments above, never had a word for them but have been asking and looking out for them most of my adult life too.
So just then I tried one out, I recently broke up with my ex lover who wanted to come and visit me since I have just moved overseas. After months of indecision I battled with the answer but said no. I said I thought there was someone else, I just felt it for both of us. Anyway, have been feeling bad for saying that and so asked Godess if I should write to him and say sorry for hurting him. In an instant the song from the Black Eyed Peas came into my head, “No, no, no no, don’t phunk with my heart!!!” I burst out laughing! thanks for this blog post Colette. xxx
