The Hungry Ghosts: Give Up Yearning… Endless Abundance is Yours!
Have you noticed thoughts of lack, scarcity, and envy frequently running through your mind? Are you focused on what you want for the future to the point that there doesn’t seem to be much greatness in your present? Have you ever caught yourself thinking that you’re “less than” because you don’t have the life you think you should? Is an old flame, regret, or wound living rent-free in your head?
If you’ve found yourself caught up in this kind of thinking and longing, it’s a clear sign you’re mind has been hijacked by the Hungry Ghosts. While this kind of haunting sounds intense, there’s no need to call on any Ghostbusters. Just take a deep breath and I’ll show you how to free yourself from their power so you can see the true perfection in your life right now.
Each day on my Facebook Fan page, I do an oracle card reading for everyone from my Wisdom of the Hidden Realms cards or Wisdom of Avalon deck and share my insight on what to keep in mind for your day. Many of you have asked more thoughts on the meaning of each card. So, I decided to do a series of longer card readings through this blog so I can share more guidance and additional insight to help you on your path. This morning as I prepared to write this blog entry, I prayed to Spirit to guide us in our highest good as we go about the next week. And, Spirit’s message: The Hungry Ghosts, which represent obsessions, scarcity consciousness, and attachment.
When you read about the Hungry Ghosts in the Wisdom of the Hidden Realms guidebook, you’ll see that they are alerting you of obsessive thinking and over-focus on the past or a longing to know the future. For example, many of us have become stuck longing for an ex-boyfriend or girlfriend to come back and profess their undying love. Or, we mistake infatuation, which is really a form yearning, for love. Many of us have also become so attached to the future and focused on planning, visualizing, or seeing psychic after psychic that we no longer see an ounce of joy in our lives today. I even wrote about my own recent experience with attachment in my The Power of Present Living blog.
As I looked at the airy ghosts on the oracle card, I intuitively sensed that Spirit is also asking us to further examine the concept of love in our lives. My recent Intuition 101: What’s Love Got to Do with It? blog focused on the importance of unconditional love when it comes to both intuition and the state of our world. Now, Spirit is guiding us to think about obsessive thinking when it comes to our relationships. Are you longing to make someone love you? Are you trying to control the outcome of a relationship? Do you worry there aren’t any good men or women left? Are you still analyzing a date you had two weeks ago and wondering if you said the right thing so that he’ll call you?
When we become focused on making someone love us, we’re always affirming we don’t have enough and won’t get enough. The more we obsess over wanting, scarcity, and yearning, the more we get an experience of lack. It’s like saying to the Universe: “Dear Spirit. I’m putting my energy into focusing on scarcity, yearning, and not having. I trust this will be my experience and am so prepared for it, that I’d like you to give me more of the same!”
Would you really choose to say such rubbish to the Universe?
Ultimately, when these ghosts secretly creep into our minds, they rob us of happiness, peace, and power in the present. And, the present is really where the all the power is.
I want you to know that abundance is your birthright. The world full of infinite greatness and you are deserving of it. There’s not only enough to go around, there’s endless abundance. Nothing is missing for you. The Universe is full of amazing possibilities and actually wants to support your highest good. You just need to surrender all those longings, yearnings, and attachments and trust in the abundance and generosity of Spirit.
Exercise:
What are you overly attached to? Take some time to write in your journal about your attachments and the impact they are having on your life. Do you have any hidden beliefs that keep inviting the Hungry Ghosts? What will it take for you to let go and trust? Remember to use you intuition!
After you’ve finished journaling, meditate on having. How does it feel to know that you have all you need? What are you thankful for? Does Spirit have any messages for you? Write it down.
Here’s a short affirmation meditation you can do.
In service and love,
Colette

Dear Colette, Thank you so very much for the Hungry ghosts meditation and explanation of what the card means. It is beautiful. I kept pulling the hungry ghost card and I truly understand what the message from Spirit is. Loud and clear! Love Brenda
Thank you Colette for your wonderful insights.
I frequently visit your site to draw a beautiful card and this blog post caught my eye. This is exactly what I’ve been working on overcoming in my life. Liefelong beliefs of lack of money and love. But no more! I cast out the hungry ghosts now and let go of all attachments. And so it is.
In Love & Gratitude,
Solara
What are you overly attached to? Financial abundance and life. I’ve been focused on earning a living from freelance writing that it’s caused me nothing but stress and worry. When I lived in Ohio and worked in accounting, I was paid every two weeks and never worried about it. I knew and believed my paycheck would be direct deposited into my checking account. I showed up at work (too much drama — I own my part in it), did my work, and collected my income.
For the past 2 1/2 years, I’ve been focused on making a new life for myself in Arizona which has caused me nothing but stress. I had plan for financial abundance, friends, etc…and it didn’t work out. I recently let go of it. If I’m to move from Arizona, so be it…I’m ready.
I also reevaluated my plan for freelance writing and let go of it. I’m taking the pressure off of me to earn a living solely from writing. I’ve opened myself to other income opportunities, have my arms outstretched, and welcome the flow of abundance.
i really enjoyed this one
thank you colette xo

Only days ago your ruler Venus moved into your opposite sign of Scorpio and the relationship angle of your chart. This means it's now time to deal with certain issues involving others, whatever the setting, that you were rather hoping would resolve themselves. They won't. And the sooner you address them, the better. By Shelley von Strunckel
There's a difference between talking about good ideas, which you've been doing a lot of lately, and those ideas being practical. Of course, with so much in transition, it's not easy to say what will actually work. However, with every passing day it's becoming increasingly clear which ones won't and can, therefore, be eliminated. By Shelley von Strunckel
The time has come to acknowledge that one particular plan or project into which you've invested considerable effort and, perhaps, heart isn't going as well as you hoped. In fact, it doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Give it one last push if you must. But if nothing happens, let it go. By Shelley von Strunckel
Now that the expansive Jupiter has joined Uranus in accenting joint ventures, both of a personal and professional nature, it's difficult to say what will happen. But the odds are good it will be both profitable and unexpected. Knowing that, at least make an effort to investigate everything that comes your way. By Shelley von Strunckel
Discussion is important in any joint venture. However, there's a certain matter in which you're so convinced your thinking is correct that your intention is to explain your plans, not listen to what others have to say. This isn't just unwise, it could cause serious upset, and right when you need their support. By Shelley von Strunckel
Ordinarily, if anybody is offended or upset by something you've done you'll apologise right away. You'd rather keep others happy than face lengthy debates about who said or did what. But in one particular case, that's exactly what you must do. It's that or face more and more ridiculous demands from them. By Shelley von Strunckel
There are those who insist that facts are facts. However, as a Scorpio and somebody who has a gift for spotting what's behind the scenes, you're increasingly aware that certain situations aren't quite so simple. In fact, dramatic changes in circumstance have altered arrangements, meaning what was once true now isn't. By Shelley von Strunckel
Ever since the New Moon, which took place just recently, accented potential changes in elements of your domestic life or activities out in the world, you've been thinking about what to do first. You may not have to decide. By early next week events are likely to do it for you. By Shelley von Strunckel
Bear in mind that with Mercury still retrograde for a few more days, and with the after-effects lasting well into next week, things are bound to be more complicated than usual. While that may slow the pace, it can also mean that you finally have time to discuss certain perplexing concerns in depth. By Shelley von Strunckel
It would be easy to regard the failure of one plan or passion into which you've devoted considerable energy as a real setback. Instead, try to think of it as a learning curve. A steep one, perhaps, but also one that's provided experience and insights that will prove hugely valuable in the future. By Shelley von Strunckel
If you're feeling trapped, it's no surprise. The past weeks' events have focused almost exclusively on rather tedious practical or financial matters. You need a break. And you'll get it in some form when the energetic Mars's move to accent new people and places gives you the necessary get up and go. By Shelley von Strunckel
