Intuition 101: Let Go of Control, Say Hello to Divine Guidance!
Have you ever had the experience of wanting something to work out sooooo much? You come up with an action plan, make a wish, keep praying, and visualize. You’d even do a rain dance if you had to. Yet, all the signs from Spirit are telling you to let go and stop putting your goals ahead of your relationships and the world around you. When you’re tired of all the fighting and you’re finally present in the “not knowing” of the mystery, the Divine leads you to your highest outcome… one that is often better than what you first wished for.
Humility is that place within you that understands you’re not alone and cannot live in isolation. Rather, you’re part of a greater system of energy—from your relationships and community to the Divine and All That Is. You receive information that does not come directly from you or your own personal knowledge, but instead through this greater system. And as part of this web, you also cannot just make things happen on your own, even if you keep trying to manifest and use the law of attraction. (I know, that can be a tough concept to digest. For more, please read my blog on the problems with simple manifestation—My Ingredients to Claim a Delicious Life. I also talk extensively about humility and intuition in my book, Remembering the Future. )
Connection is the ultimate realm of intuition and a reminder that you are part of a greater community.
With humility, you can maintain you’re connection with Spirit no matter how tough life might seem. It entails letting go of control, surrendering to the present, and being grateful for all of your experiences… even the tough aspects of your life. So, if you’re worrying about whether you’ll attain your goal or feeling stuck, humility asks you to bless all of your experiences. With acceptance and a grateful attitude, you open yourself to Divine guidance.
Humility also asks you to remain open and share your own gifts and abilities with the world without placing conditions on what your want in return. It asks you to live by example and put your focus on others. This means, rising above victim consciousness and recognizing that we’re all in this together; even though each of us is unique, we’ve all had our own ups and downs.
I often joke that most of the goals I’ve surrendered have had my claw prints all over it. For example, you may have heard me talk about my dream to be a recording artist. I first did intuitive readings on the side while I prayed and prayed for my music career to take off. No matter how much I tried and pushed to make it happen, it just didn’t. But, the phone kept ringing for readings. It was clear that the Divine had other plans for me. So, I finally surrendered to just be in service to others. That humility led me to a where I am today—with a career that not only helps others, but I also love. And, ironically I did eventually get the record deal after I let it go!
Sometimes the greatest adventure is found through surrendering to not knowing and just being.
Exercises:
Practice being grateful and of service:
Write down five things you’re grateful for every night for a week. And, ask yourself how you can be more of service to others. You might even acknowledge someone in your life you’re grateful for. (Perhaps bring flowers to the hardworking barista at your coffee shop, help your neighbor with their trash, or send a card to a family member or friend.)
Let go and let God:
What do you need to let go of? Write a letter to Spirit about your situation. Acknowledge that you’re letting go of control and pray for guidance. When ever I get stuck, I turn to my own oracle cards for guidance, but not until I have released my hold of a desired outcome, and ask with humility for guidance.
Here’s a great meditation called… Humility (also available in my store if you’d like to own it)
Love Colette

I’m working on surrendering. I love my writing, but I keep being pushed into working with teens. I have a teen life coaching site that I’m working on developing into a practice. Perhaps I’ll surrender and let go. I know writing is part of my purpose, I’ll just “loosen the reins” on it.
Just what I needed to hear! It’s funny how I can know this stuff but still need to be reminded again. It’s time to go and live life while loving and enjoying the things that are in it now! I’m letting go and allow the divine in a little bit more… Thank you
Just did the meditation “humility” with your beautiful voice! It made me feel so emerged with God, and the universe! Good advice, Let Go and Live and Let Spirit guide! LOVE=)
Oh my goodness! We have a similar trait…
Most of the goals I’ve surrendered also have my claw marks all over them. I am a recovering “control freak” and just detaching and allowing has been a challenging but totally rewarding experience.
Learing faith and keeping faith is something I’m still working on.
*Coincidentally* I just posted my greatest desire on my blog, and just let go of it to the Universe.
Thanks for the excellent timing of this post!! LOL

I take care of elderly folks (2), and I played it for them; they enjoyed it very much. Colette, you have such a soothing voice.
Do you have any CD’s to soothe pain?
Tlhank you Colette – I needed to hear this – for I need to let go of the situation I am in – I cannot help by holding on tight. It is hard, for deep down I feel that I am the only one I can trust, but it is not so. I need to trust and let go not to let my fear and worry and yes, let go of my need to be in control and have faith and hope.
I just have to tell you that you are the Bomb honey!!! I love your work. Thanks for all you do.
Yes! So true. I took this advice of giving up control to an extreme. :-/ I wrote about it in my blog.
Great advice!
I’ve still been clawing, yet I know that my most peaceful and blissful time is always when I let go and just be.
May I let go!
Thank You Collette, for everything. . . for all your service.
Blessings,
Lyn
Thank you. This could not have come at a better time.
Thank you. This could not have come at a better time. I sent it to the rest of my family. They are having a hard time right now. Rock bottom isn’t low enough to describe the pain. Thank you
Thank you for this reminder, Colette. This is exactly what I needed to read today. Reminds me of a quote I always come back to when I am struggling to *make* things happen:
“Have patience with everything unresolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves as if they were locked rooms or books written in a very foreign language. Do not search for the answers, which cannot not be given to you now, because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps then, someday far in the future, you will gradually, without even noticing it, live your way into the answer.”
-Rainer Maria Rilke
Much Love,
Cindy T.
Thank you for this…just in time for the recent events that have occurred. Bless u.
Wow, loved this one! I have been gripping onto goals and attached to outcomes and causing a lot of stress for myself lately. Funny thing, immediately after I read this, I turned on the radio on my desk, and the song playing is “Got to Give it Up” by Marvin Gaye. I hear you loud and clear, Spirit!
Just got done listening to you and Eddie today on Souls Journey… was so excited to know you were the quest… I needed to hear many of the topics you discussed especially the pillars, so I was drawn to your site… and read this article and meditation… perfect for me at this time.
Thank you and Blessings of love and light.
This is such a great post, Collette!! I love your book, “Remember the Future” and am about to read, “Messages from Spirit.”
I find when I’m most ill at ease with myself that I’ve been grasping, holding on and trying to make something happen which doesn’t flow for me. I am early on in learning this precious gift of letting go and am thankful I found your blog.

However unsure you are about the wisdom of their plans, they're actually far more knowledgeable than you imagine. Ask them for explanations. The resulting discussions will be as informative as they are reassuring. By Shelley von Strunckel
Now that Neptune has joined your ruler Venus in the visionary sign of Pisces, you'll find that suddenly your intuition is amazingly clear. While this may not last forever, explore the resulting feelings and perceptions. The resulting insights will come in handy, especially when dealing with impossible people or situations. Often issues are best discussed frankly and openly, and as soon as possible after they arise. However, many pivotal facts are either unknown or misunderstood. That being the case, take it slowly. Say what you must but no more. And remain silent until all the necessary information comes to light. By Shelley von Strunckel
Every once in a while it's important to review what you do with your time and to consider what and who you put first in your life. While you might think you've got your priorities right, give some thought to these matters and you'll realise you're short-changing some and wasting considerable time on others. By Shelley von Strunckel
Sometimes challenging situations involving already rather uptight individuals are best approached with a light touch. While you may think there's nothing funny or humorous to be found, the actual process will cast the proceedings in a fresh perspective. You might even stop taking things quite so seriously, which alone is an achievement. By Shelley von Strunckel
Don't mistake the suggestions made by others that certain once important ventures might need to come to a conclusion as criticism. The fact is, you've been thinking exactly the same yourself, but have been unwilling to acknowledge it. The real problem is your own pride. Tackle that and everything else will be easy. By Shelley von Strunckel
Arrangements you've struggled to organise are falling apart. You can't help but feel that if they matter, you should battle for them. Take a look at the changes going on around you and, as a result, in your own life. These make it inevitable that some of those long-standing arrangements must go. By Shelley von Strunckel
One of the most challenging things for you to admit is that you've been outsmarted. It makes no difference whether the situation in question involves certain individuals or it's the circumstances you're dealing with. Still, not only must you admit that's the case, you're urged to let go of the reins entirely. By Shelley von Strunckel
Being a fire sign, you're superb at surmounting the kind of obstacles many regard as overwhelming. However, one particular situation has thrown even you. Frustrating as this is in the short term, what you learn from the actual process of figuring out ways around these will serve you well in the future. By Shelley von Strunckel
Yet again you've made the mistake of trusting somebody else to do a job for you. Actually, that isn't the problem. They did what was necessary, but not with the care or thoroughness you'd have employed. Which is why you didn't mention it. You unwisely assumed they would be as conscientious as you are. By Shelley von Strunckel
As an Aquarius, although you don't notice it, you're far more interested in what others are both thinking and doing than most. This means that often you understand them better than they do themselves. Bear this in mind now, as you discuss sensitive matters and you'll realise why they seem so lacking in self-awareness. By Shelley von Strunckel
At times progress is marked by new experiences, exciting encounters or achievements. However, the kind of progress you're making could just as well involve recognising that you really must say farewell to certain alliances, activities or even goals. This may seem unfair, but they part of the past and would be a real distraction. By Shelley von Strunckel
