The Magic of Summer Solstice: What Light Can You Bring to the World?
Summer is almost here! And, while this time of year is often spent vacationing and sipping fruity drinks by the pool, summer is actually the perfect time to take stock of your life and refocus on what you want to share with the world and manifest for the year ahead.
Each year on June 21 in the Northern Hemisphere and December 21 in the Southern Hemisphere, the sun reaches the highest point in the sky. It is the first day of summer and a major celestial event—the Summer Solstice.
As the lightest and longest day of the year, the Summer Solstice beckons you to celebrate your own light and evaluate how you can share it with the world around you. It is also a powerful time to connect with the universe, tap into your intuition, and plant the seeds for your ultimate destiny.
Earlier this week as I was walking around our neighborhood in Sedona and thinking about the coming solstice, I was stunned to realize how much my life had transformed since June of 2009. I’ve reached new levels in both my career and my relationships, but I’ve also dramatically evolved as a person. I thought of all the steps I’ve taken that I’m proud of and asked myself what additional actions I’d like to take this year. What else did I want to do to share my light? Though I’m already very environmentally conscious, I realized that I intuitively wanted to focus more on protecting Mother Nature. And, I took my first step the next day while I was at the hairdressers, of all places. I asked my stylist to cut off more than usual so I could donate my cut hair to help combat the oil spilling into the Gulf of Mexico.
Civilizations have for centuries honored the significance of the Summer Solstice. For our ancestors, the crops had been planted and would soon be harvested. Perhaps the most enduring modern ties with Summer Solstice were the Druids’ celebration of the day as the “wedding of Heaven and Earth.” These days, most of us celebrate the first day of summer with community fairs and barbeques, but much of the greater significance of the day has gotten lost in the shuffle. Until now, of course!
Exercise:
I’d like to invite to join me in honoring the week of the Summer Solstice by taking an inventory of your life. During the week following June 21, set aside some time to ask yourself the following questions. I highly recommend that you write your thoughts down in a journal so that you can go back to them on the next solstice. And, remember to use your intuition!
• Since the last Summer Solstice in June of 2009, what has grown in my life? And what am I proud of? (Be sure to make a long list of all your accomplishments and qualities, even the smaller ones!)
• What light do I bring to the world? How can I further share my light with others and the Universe?
• Am I reaping what I’ve sown? Are my efforts moving me forward on my path? If not, what is blocking me and how can I regroup? (Trust you intuition on this!)
• What do I need to tend to in my life? What do I want to change?
• What do I want to manifest for the rest of the year? And, what are the steps I need to take to nurture those goals?
If you have a dream board, I also recommend that you look it over and make changes if necessary.
And, from June 22 til June 26 take a moment daily to meditate about the magnificent power of the sun and its light. As I talk about in detail in Remembering the Future and Messages From Spirit, we are intrinsically connected with the vast world around us. So when you take some time to honor the sun, you also open yourself to your intuition and Divine guidance.
You also might want to try the Sound of the Sun, an amazing meditation with the NASA’s Sound of the Sun recordings blended into the music to create an effect that goes beyond just being a meditative tool. This is one of my favorite meditations!
As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the Summer Solstice and the exercise. What are some ways you can share more of your light with the world?
In service and love,
Colette

What a wondeful exercise to do on a day off! At first I thought I don’t think much has changed in a year, but then I got out my journal and started going back 1 year and I noticed just how much I actually did change, without being aware of it. I have grown so much, even if at times I feel like nothing is happening. I definetly recommend everyone to track their personal growth once a year! You will be amazed of the results, I know I was
June 21 came and went. It’s interesting that it’s the longest day of the year because it didn’t feel like it. I believe my path keeps switching because I have many passions. I’d really like to be in a relationship, meet new friends, and just have some fun. I finally (with the help of Deborah King) realized my thoughts around finances are not my own and have been saying affirmations and journaling to delete and rewrite new thoughts around finances.
I thought I was quite certain that I’d go back to school for a M.A. Counseling but I’m questioning my decision. I’ve been having many obstacles with one of the schools I applied to a few weeks ago. I very interested in conservation and environment, children’s issues, and animals (especially shelter)…these are my passions. I my passion for politics has been growing. I’ve also let go of certain dreams. I think I was choking them anyway so it was good to let them go.
Thanks for the exercise. Hopefully, it will give me the clarification that I seek.
Thank you SOO0000000oooooooooo much for sharing your gifts. You are bubbly, warm, profoundly intelligent radiance to all of us. I am happy you showed up in my life. Kathleen
I was watching the news and people were celebrating the summer solstice at Stonehenge (England) and I thought ‘wow’ how beautiful, amazing, and how lucky are these guys to be there. I then saw people march back home up the hill towards their vehicles after waiting for the sun to rise in the early morning hours. All beautiful but I did notice that these happy moments also had a shadow cast over it by the amount of rubbish that was left on the grounds in and around Stonehenge. For what should have been a beautiful moment was lost for me in that moment when the grounds person said that the site is then closed all day in order to clear up the mess……I thought how selfish were those sun seekers in that they could have left that place open for more people to enjoy for the rest of the day. Sorry for the rant but it had to be said. Pick up your litter if you want to enjoy the sun and its glitter;)

www.shelleyvonstrunckel.comOnce you understand that this is one of those times when you can succeed or have things your way, but not both, everything else will be simple. The problem is that while your objectives once made sense, the actual circumstances you're dealing with have changed. Success demands you rethink those goals. By Shelley von Strunckel
Some changes are easy to understand and as easily dealt with. Those you're contending with at the moment, however, are far more complicated. This is primarily because they involve changes far more complex than you've previous contemplated. Disruptive as they seem, the world around you is changing and so, too, must you. By Shelley von Strunckel
This is a period of breakthroughs. While in some cases you recognise why certain changes are necessary and what you'll gain from them, others seem no more than a nuisance. Ironically, those that you regard as the greatest source of irritation now will prove the most beneficial, and in the shortest time. By Shelley von Strunckel
Initially, others' suggestions may be more to their taste than anything you'd want to get involved in. As it happens, they know you better than you think. Enough that in this particular case it's worth at least exploring what they have in mind. Once you do, you'll wonder why you hesitated for even a moment. By Shelley von Strunckel
Ordinarily you'd never commit to something or, indeed, somebody without at least being enthusiastic about it. Ideally, you want to feel passion. There are, however, one or two situations in which logic must prevail over those feelings. Dull as this is from your perspective, it's by far the best approach. By Shelley von Strunckel
Challenging as some of the situations you're currently facing may be, they'll all preparing you for the amazing offers promised by the planetary activity in about a week's time. What's taking place now is, on one hand, clearing out the old and, on the other, slowing introducing exciting new developments. By Shelley von Strunckel
Personal issues can be dealt with according to mood and convenience. Business or money matters need to wait until you've gathered facts enough to have a reasonable discussion. That certainly isn't the case now and probably won't be until your ruler Venus' clash with Pluto, in the middle of next week. By Shelley von Strunckel
Obviously, sometimes sudden changes in routine can be avoided. This is exactly what you're facing. The problem is, you're concerned one particular individual will interpret your absence from various social events as reason for concern. While it's worth explaining, such matters bother you but they worry others far less than you think. By Shelley von Strunckel
It's not that things are unsettling. Actually, you rather enjoy the challenge of coming to terms with the new and unexpected. It's that those around you are anxious, complaining about the impact of changes or actually suffering. There's only one solution, and that's to encourage them to explore, just as you do. By Shelley von Strunckel
During periods of rapid and unpredictable change, such as this is, there's a tendency to stick with the familiar. However, this could mean that, while others are exploring, you're learning nothing. The trick is to ensure you're out and about, learning what you can, yet retain a safe port to retreat to when necessary. By Shelley von Strunckel
From your perspective, loyalty means being there, no matter what. Bear in mind that not everybody thinks the same way. This is especially important now, because somebody you've trusted could seem to be distancing themselves from you when, in reality, they've sudden and very demanding obligations. There's no reason for concern. By Shelley von Strunckel
Waste no time justifying what your intuition tells you to those who insist all such matters are nonsense, as many do. Should they challenge you, smile and say no more. However, when those who have sincere questions want more information, tell them what you can. It could change their life. By Shelley von Strunckel
