Weight Loss for People Who Feel Too Much

By Colette Baron-Reid [ 8 June 2010 | 5,355 views | 19 Comments ]

weightLossHelpDo you tend to reach for cake, cookies, and candy when you’re nervous, anxious, or sad? Is a large bowl of pasta your saving grace after a tough day at work? Have you been watching what you eat, but seem to keep gaining weight? Do you have an uncontrollable urge to stuff yourself and pig out every night?

If any of these questions resonated with you, the issue might not be about food or willpower at all!

In my many years as an intuitive counselor, I’ve noticed that one of the major reasons many of us gain weight is that we’re clairsentient and tend to use food to ground us. Clairsentience is the psychic ability to feel and sense subtle forms of energy. If you’re clairsentient, you feel the emotions of people around you. You might walk into a room and feel a sudden shift in your mood. You may find large crowds overwhelming. You might even sit in a chair and pick up on the emotions of the person who sat there before you. As a clairsentient, you’re so full of other people’s emotions by the end of the day that you reach for the first thing that will make you feel settled. For many of us, the easiest and quickest way to get grounded is to eat something, especially sugar and flour!

If you’ve listened to my show on HayHouseRadio.com ( every thursday at 11 am pst / 2 pm est) , you’ve probably heard me talk about my own struggle with using food to ground myself. If I’m doing tons of readings and workshops but not taking time to get centered, my subconscious leads me to chocolate and bread. A few years ago, I found myself gaining weight even though I was dieting and exercising. Once I threw diets out the door and made the connection between clairsentience and weight gain, I lost quite a bit of weight with a few easy steps to take to stay grounded. So, here’s my weight loss remedy for you!

Exercise:

First, remember that food isn’t the issue. As a clairsentient, feeling grounded and thus losing weight comes from recognizing who YOU are. By the end of the day, many of us are so full of others’ energy that we’re no longer sure of who we are. You must take steps to be coherent with your inner world. For example, I love to journal and write music. What are some things you love to do that ground you? Make a commitment to do at least one of those every day.

As you go about your day and notice changes in your emotions, ask yourself, “Is this my emotion? Or, is it someone else’s energy?” When it’s not your emotion (and you’ll find it often isn’t!), just pause for a moment and let the feeling go. You might even visualize the emotion fading away.

Losing weightFind a way to be still each day. Meditation is a great way to get centered. I also highly recommend that you spend time in water each day. I love to take a bath before dinner; after soaking in the tub, I always come to dinner feeling calm and look at the food before me as nourishment rather than a quick fix. Going for a walk in nature will also help you stay grounded. Since many clairsentients tend to eat the most after 4 p.m., I highly recommend that you make it a habit to cultivate stillness each evening before you have dinner.

And, just say no to diets! Be sure to eat three meals a day with two snacks. When a clairsentient even thinks of the word diet, food becomes the issue and your emotions get out of whack, leading you to just want to eat to ground yourself. Okay, now that I’ve said the “D word,” I want you to take it out of your mind by doing one of my favorite meditations, The Tree, as a gift to you.

If you’d like more insight, I’m going to be doing a course on weight loss for people who feel too much. Please contact us for more details.

Colette

    Beautiful Colette

You are a godsend :) , so is Spirit (this is a message I have clearly got NOW!!!). Here’s me thinking omg what on earth is wrong with me. I see myself as my ideal weight etc. etc. etc. and yet yes! I’m stuffing my face, I do not really want it, yet I reach for jam sandwiches, chocolate whatever and yes! I feel better or do I.

I am a very very sensitive clairsentient and pick up absolutely everything, not only that I store just about absolutely everything and it shows on my face (Discoid Lupus). I was given a reading by a lovely maori lady who told me I’m like a computer who downloads to the hard drive and guess what my hard drive is sooooo full, I have external hard drives filling up toooo.

I paint to ground myself I spose and I love it. I should go for walks too, I need a good kick in the jacksy, once I’m motivated I’m fine.

Thank you Colette for the reminder, I am so grateful for these messages given by you and Spirit.

    Hello Collette,

I recently understood very clearly how I have used food all my life to ground myself after someone else’s energy has triggered me. I was at a friend’s house and had just finished calming my sister over the phone when I found myself in the living room eating Cheetos when I was still full from lunch. As I put the Cheetos in my mouth I asked myself what is this doing for me and why am I doing it? The answer was, it’s calming me, and that’s when the red flag showed itself. I am empathic and clairsentient which makes me extremely sensitive. I was actually going to email you a question about PRECISELY what your article is about so how is that for synchronicity?
I am still learning to ask “Is this me or someone else’s?” Most of the time I know whose it is but there are still times when I don’t and that feeling of uneasiness stays with me until the only thing I feel left to do is eat.
I have also decided to keep sugarless gum with for me emergencies so I can have something in my mouth that won’t add pounds. Thank you for your article.

Funny thing, tho, you asked what we do to ground us?… I cook!!! may want to find another activity to ground with, huh?! :) Thanks so much for the insight!!!

    Hi Collette,
I saw you once again in toronto at the “I Can do it”…..I have a constant weight problem. I have been overweight and so unhappy with it for so long. I would like to work on a program with you. i am so tired of being overweight and thinking about it all the time. I eat mine and everyone’s emotions. i eat without even thinking about it. i know what i shouldn’t eat. i just am not strong enough to say NO to it. I love sugar and bread. i could live on both and both make me feel like a slug.
please advise when you are doing this. i would love to be a part of it.

I know I’m empathic and believe I’m Clairsentient. I do tend to pick up other peoples’ emotions. I use a technique that works for me which was taught to me by an intuitive instructor. I had no idea my solar plexus was wide open. Every time I go somewhere I now choose how far I want to be open. One day I went shopping and totally shut down. I felt much better and received impeccable customer service. There are certain places where I won’t close down all the way like when I’m volunteering. At first I thought this technique was strange and didn’t believe it’d work but it works for me. I “re-open” when I get into my car or home.

I never thought about being still before eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I love nature so I make it a point to get outside each day. I have no excuse since I live in the Southwest :)

Hey wonderful teaching, sharing Goddess CBR!

Thank you! When I speak with clients, and we’re speaking of all the clairs…(sentient, cognizance, voyance, audience, and more)…I always say start your day with Protection work, Grounding, and Chakra balancing/opening! The Grounding and Chakra work I suggest is your “Grounding” and “Opening the Channels” meds on your store on this website! Fantastic, only around 10 mins. and a few bucks to download! Most of my clients are completely new to understanding meditation; they’ll try 10 mins., but not longer, so thank you for your shorter ones! Excellent! Will you be producing a Protection meditation? I can’t seem to find one. Your buddy, Lisa Williams, had one on her site for a bit, but it’s now gone.

I’m a firm believer that if we do our meds we won’t have to take meds! Meaning meditation over medication, where ever possible. I now have folks chanting that, and what an AUM is that! Woooohoooo! Thanks! You ROCK! Q

I’ve been searching for many, many years to find a solution to my obsession with food. It has been a battle that I have not openly shared with anyone. It is painful and frightening to me, to find that I can’t seem to stop overeating. My biggest fear was brought to my attention, the exact same date that this blog was posted. I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, Tues June 8 2010. My world fell apart around me and I couldn’t stop sobbing. I had brought myself to this place because of not addressing this issue, the issue that I stuffed my face with chocolates, cookies, candies, ice cream and cake at obscene amounts. I have tried therapy, self education through books, energy work, working out and momentary dieting until I fell off the boat, once again. I’m at a stale mate.

I am an empath, professional psychic medium and massage therapist. Nice huh? I work in peoples energy fields all day everyday. I ground myself 100s of times a day, using salt baths, drinking water, wearing and using crystals to keep my energy field clear. Working with my spirit to allow me to help my clients, yet not take on their energy positive or negative. I love my chosen professions and I am very, very happy with them. One things remains a constant my health. When will I fall off the wagon again? How many times can I work on myself with the same results? I see from your blog that I can work with it, however I’ve been working with it most of my life and I’ve lost the battle. How do I recover and continue to assist those in need, with my intuitive insight and the healing work that I love to provide?

    Feeling confused and alone

    Hi Colette,

Thanks for this important post. I’ve been noticing the increase in reaching for sugar when my stress levels go up.

I’ve been through such a stressful time in the last month, to the point that I completely went off my path of eating healthily and exercising. It seems like I was so ungrounded I couldn’t even take control of any aspects of my self-care.

After this realization, and some grounding experiences, I’m working on trying to ground through “extreme self-care” – exercise, being in nature, and making enough time for self-care.

I look forward to your weight loss program.

Thanks so much, Collette for your insight on this subject. In 2007 I discovered I was a food addict…there are actually 12 step programs for this as you probably know. I was shocked. I discovered my abstinance comes with not eating sugar, flour and wheat. I feel great when I am able to be abstinent. I was totally abstinent for 13 months and then had a relapse involving volumn eating. Your article about being clairsentient makes so much sense. When I began again to binge I would ask myself what is going on, but getting no clear answers…the answer I was getting seemed like blame and I did not want to go there. It’s not blame, however. It is what it is and I fit into that explanation. Now I know to cut cords when I have those “feelings” of needing comfort and safety from other’s emotions. Cord cutting is very helpful to me and also salt baths. So simple, but in conjuction with writing….which I love, this is the answer for me at this time.. Woohoo! Thanks so much for your insight and listening to your insight and sharing with us. And today I picked the hawk card. Wow, really connected.

Hello! Thank you for such great advice/counceling. I thought I was a stress eater, but there are times when I hardly have stress and still find myself reaching out for the baked goods or chocolate. I thought I was just too sensitive and needed to get over it, now, I know I may actually be a “sensitive” and need to ask if these are my feelings or those around me. I am also relieved that there is a reason why stores or crowds affect me so much…the holiday season is tough because department stores are so crowded.

    Colette,

I saw you just last Friday and you mentioned your course to me while giving me a reading. I think I was too overwhelmed at the time to fully take that part in and found this popping up on your page today and it over took the page. I think there is definitly a message here for a lot of us. My friend and I will be signing up because this rings more then a little to truely and my love of chocolate and Smart food popcorn are overtaking my evenings. I swear, I have stopped being able to feel full. The spirit has a way of spreading messages.

Thank you for sharing with everyone your own struggles and now successes with this. I can’t wait to take part in the course.

    Monica

P.S. So many things manifested after the conference, including a program that was considered being dropped and served more then 22 homeless families a month (equalling on average 117 individuals) recieved consistant funding to continue. Miracles???? Many Blessings.

I’ve got a little secret tip to share with you all. I keep a bag of semi-sweet morsels in the fridge and when-ever I get an urge to reach for something bad, I grab a few of them and let them melt slowly in my mouth. I use the semi-sweet, or dark chocolate because of the antioxidants it supplies. Even if you end up eating the equivalant of one serving (approximately 25 morsels) it is still on 70 calories. That is 1/3 (at the very least) of any other confectionate goodie you may have lining the walls of your pantry and the FDA claims it is good for you…so.

I must admit, occasionally I go over the recommended serving, but it hasn’t seemed to hurt me. I too am empathic, clairaudient, sentient, and all that other good stuff <–(depending on what kind of day I'm having :-) )
I do eat plenty of fresh fruits and veggies. I avoid sugar (except for the morsels)and I will not eat bread. I drink at least 60 oz of water a day as well and exercise regularly. My weight has fell over 100 lbs over the course of 5 years. I hope some will find these suggestions helpful and may even have better results as my progress was thwarted quite often by unstable thyroid disease. Although I really think that if I had been more disciplined with my meditation and energy work especially shielding, the results would have been easier. I am working on that now though.

The biggest lesson I've learned though is to not be so hard on myself. Love yourself and be ok with who you are.

    Nameste.

Yes, yes, yes! Thank you for the reminder…I am always the hungriest in the late afternoon and I have realized that a lot of it has to do with what and who I am in contact with that day. This article has reminded me to be aware of MY feelings and also be aware of the triggers that have the sugar goblin whispering in my ear! When I eat as nature encourages me to…lots of greens and water…I feel so much better…duh! Lots of love, Alina:)
