Is Your Inner Goblin Running the Show? Part 1 of 2!

4

Updated: October 8, 2012

Have you ever heard someone tell you that you are sabotaging yourself?  It’s not an unusual expression or concept, however how does it make you feel?  Terrible, right?  Not only are you now frustrated with different aspects of your life but now you get to hear that it’s all your fault.  Fun, isn’t it?

You are definitely not alone.  We all have within us, a voice belonging to our wounded self, another part of our ego that can sometimes stop us in our tracks just when we are feeling great.  It could be a little (or tremendously loud) voice that calls you Fat, or Ugly, or that dreaded, well-hidden-hope-no-one-finds-out Fake. Imagine that this voice belongs to a little Goblin- a creature that symbolizes and embodies your inner negativity that was learned long ago each time you came to believe that you were not “whole.”

Would it help you to know it’s not you that’s talking, it’s your Goblin?  Stay with me, here, it will all make sense in a minute.  What if you were to separate yourself from that voice?  That might change things a bit, right?

If you can give me six minutes, I can explain the origin of this little drama queen creature and how it blocks our intuition and tries to screw things up for us.   Here is a quick video I produced to explain the Goblin – many of you might already be familiar with this little brat as I explain it on stage at my live events and in my book, The Map.  For those of you who haven’t named your Goblin yet, here’s a key distinction to remember:  when you’re feeling bad, it’s only a part of you that’s feeling bad, not all of you that identifies with the wound that’s holding you back.  The rest of you is perfectly healthy.

What’s the name of your Goblin?  What does he/she look like?  What qualities does it have that blocks your intuition?  I’d love for you to share your story with our community here on my blog site.  Please use the Comments section below and let’s get the conversation started!

Stay tuned for Part 2 of this blog series when I show you a valuable exercise you can do to call out your inner Goblin, name it and have a relationship with it.  Once named, it will have far less power to block your intuition and get in the way of your successes.

I name my Goblin ” Fester”. He’s a small, ugly, grey haired, evil goblin, who rubs his hands together in glee when he sees the opportunity to destroy me. He slashes my happy images, drams and hopes down, speaks horrible, hurtful words and inflicts pain in my heart. He swells my fears and doubts… I hate him.

Colette, I hope some day to get to talk to you…maybe tomorrow on your show! But for now I wanted to tell you that I bought The Map to read, because of drawing cards on your sight. Each time I draw one it speaks to me and guides me into a new insight. The Goblin is a great way to address my inner procrastinator and boy, do I need to do that. I’m taking out my drawing materials tonight and actually give that little booger and face that I can talk to!

Take care and thank you for your insight and grace,
    Cindy

I love you, Collette. You’re the only one I know that helps me to laugh while I’m doing my personal work. My goblin is named Gladys. She looks like one of the Jim Henson creatures form his movie Labryinth with David Bowie only mine wears a dirtly old kerchef on her head and a dirty old apron. She goes around all bent over like an old woman and grumbles about why any and every idea or dream I have is a waste of time because I’m a fake, I never follow through on anything, I’m not good enough, I’m no expert and who do I think will listen to a loser like me, etc. So far I’ve been able to quiet her from time to time by taking her in my arms and telling her how much I love and appreciate her. I’ve yet to be able to get her to go to sleep altogether. I’m looking forward to part 2 as I’ve lent my copy of The Map to a friend.

    Hi Colette,
First off I would like to say thanks for being my messenger today. I heard a Hawk two nights in a row and decided to look it up in your book Messages from Spirit. I believe the message I was to receive was this one. Anyway, I have named my goblin George. He really doesn’t look like much except for two red eyes that peer in at me in the dark. George likes to block my self esteem , he likes to make me feel like I’m not deserving, or like in just not good enough. Whenever there’s a bump in the road, George is the one that tries to convince me that I should just give up. George tells me I’m not good enough to marry and that I don’t deserve more than I have. Man, George is a REAL BRAT!!!
Now I know what to look for I will be able to concentrate more on myself and understand that it’s George that should be insecure when I take the power from him.
    Can’t wait for part 2
    Thanks again Colette.
