The Prospering Potential of Tuning Into Your Higher Power!

WEEKLY ORACLE CARD READING

How To Pray for Real and Stop Bargaining

Before I knew a better way to communicate with the Divine, I used to pray a lot. I always believed in a power greater than me. I just thought that Power was following me around with a fly swatter.

I mentioned last week that I saw the world as ensouled, like I do today, every animal with a spirit, every blade of grass, rock or worm. So why did my prayers hardly ever work? I was serious about prayer! My prayers were so strong and so meaningful and so so so powerful!

Prayers are powerful and mine should work.

Not really, today looking back I know my prayers were totally lame, if you really want to know the truth.

And, here’s why.

My prayers were bargaining prayers—prayers of pleading spectacles of need and serious purveyors of lack.

Do you know what I mean?

“Please God let me out of this and I promise I will never do it again!”

“Please Please Please I will do anything if you’ll just bring him back to me!”

“Please don’t let this be happening! I will be good!”

“Dear God, I am meant for this. I know I am. Please please make it go my way! I will work hard and praise you! Etc.”

Blech.

If you do this, I will do that is not the right way to prayer and certainly not a good example of a prospering prayer.

I have learned since then that prayers that work and create miracles aren’t ones that have any amount of bargaining, cajoling, promising or any other hysterics or drama attached. The Universe, God, Spirit, whatever you want to call your higher Power isn’t a secret Santa who has a list of who is naughty or nice! And no, you cannot offer cookies and milk.

So how have my prayers changed? They are about surrender, courage, compassion, healing, and love.

“Thy will be done through me for the highest good.”

“Remove these defects so I can heal and be better.”

“Show me to higher ground.”

“Help me to face this, give me the courage to change so I can better do thy will.”

“Help me forgive this person.”

“Show me the way. Help me to accept your will for me.”

And the prospering prayer?

“Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for the gift of life. Show me how I can serve.”

I learned that praying for “Divine wisdom and to know the will of the Divine for me and the power to carry that out” is so much better than my old way.

This way I’m never disappointed and I am always guaranteed to see the great value in the result.

Love to hear from you. Tag, You’re it!

Dearest Colette, my heart feels a little lighter this morning after reading your blog. Yes, I think I have been a master ( or mistress;) of using prayer as a bargaining tool. I now have clarity on how to utilize prayer in a conscious, loving way. Much Gratitude 🙏💖🦋🦋

Huge difference in how we walk in Spiritual communion once we lead with surrender. I recalibrate differently now and my “individuality compass“ is resting in my pocket for assistance not direction. It’s getting better though the layers of this understanding are still being revealed. Today is a new opportunity to test drive this new vehicle Spirit pulled up into my driveway 😁🤓☺️

I think I learned, though I’m still catching on, that when I make a choice or decision to do something, then I pray for peace and guidance on how it could be positive. It usually ends up not what I first expected it would be, but right.

Thank you, Colette. I was just kneeling last night wondering how to pray well. When a child I spent time praying every night. I don’t remember what all I did but it felt good and wanting to get back to cultivating a prayer life so this is great information. I appreciate you sharing this very much.

Thanks for the message. It reminded me of 40+ yrs ago when I was talking with a wise friend (whining/bitching/moaning about something I ‘should have by now’ in the first year of my journey). She said* “As far as I know, God doesn’t do shopping lists. Otherwise we would all win the Lottery. But he does really well when you ask for guidance, courage, strength and acceptance.” Turns out that has been very true in my life:) Has been useful to remember many times over in the time since.

What a great perspective. Praying is so unique and private to each of us but to see HOW we are praying in a light that is not necessarily wrong but not bringing our true needs to the table is eye opening. I appreciate this and needed to read it.

Thank you again for your words of wisdom. I must say that watching you and Marc your energy is fantastic. Having also seen you several times at Oraclepalooza he doesn’t blow your candle out. Back to prayer. It took years to stop believing that I had to bargain with the guy in the sky. After all, after 6 years of barging, begging and pleading he finally gave me that baby I so wanted. He forgot to give me the users manual. Today my prayers are positive spiritual mind treatments. I unify with my Higher Power and believe right action is always happening. I used to ask for Mr. perfect husband #2. However it occurred to me as a major ah ha after OS that he is out there and after I’m done working on healing all or most of my issues and he is ready to have a successful relationship….the universe will bring us together. Until then I’m taking SW for my 3rd tIme and doing the internal work healing more everyday. Thank you Colette for guiding me on this healing journey to new unique life.

I work in an office, so I started to do this….
I asked Fear to let go of my leg and sit in the waiting room. Next I asked Ego and Anxiety to also have a seat out in the waiting room. I pictured myself firmly shutting my office door and sitting alone, staring down Pride.
After your blog today, they are all going to be asked nicely to leave.
I’m learning to live for this life and not wait for it to be over.
    Thank you xo

Wow. Talk about synchronicity! I’ve been re reading Tosha Silver & Schinn on how to prosper and proper use of words, including using them in prayer, along with books by C. Ponder on prayer, healing, and prosperity. Giving thanks this morning for the past week’s intervention- a safety shut off valve for my natural gas to my house was shut off, which is only supposed to be triggered by a quake,or a really hard hit causing a strong enough vibration to trigger it. This happened Halloween night. How it got triggered no one knows.Took me a little while to catch on that there was no gas flow to the house,so I called the gas co and had them come out. They turned the gas on,and started checking out my gas powered appliances. When the guy got to the water heater my Dad had installed in 2003, he found I think 3 major things wrong and red tagged it. He apologized and told me it was absolutely too dangerous to even think of starting it up again. So have a plumber coming today to install a new one-will be interesting to get his take on it. One astrologer I follow,Monte Farber, said I was saved from a major explosion. I’m convinced it was my Dad,(passed in 2017),angels,and guides who shut the gas off to protect me. Am beyond thankful.

    Colette ( and everyone!) 🙂

I am a prayer warrior for other people, particularly many sick children. I’ve seen the miracles and also the absolute heartbreak for so many parents. I’ll admit that over the years my prayers have often sounded like pleading and bargaining. It’s hard to say ‘thy will be done’ when I think about parents facing the end of life for their child. And yet, I KNOW without a doubt that it is always God’s will and that there is so much that we all just do not know or understand why these things happen. I find it is easier to say thy will be done for my own life but when I am interceding for someone I want to bargain, beg, plead and kick my heels. In my own life, I absolutely rest in God’s will. I’ve been sober for almost 13 years – it is the only way I know to live my life. One day at a time in gratitude, service and in His will. Thank you for this blog post. I know that many of us struggle in this area. I’m going to really try to stop my begging and pleading for others and try to remember that just as God’s will is always for my highest good, it is always for someone else’s too. Even if we don’t necessarily like the outcome at the moment. Oh and one last thing for whoever needs to hear this – prayer to me has become like a warm cozy blanket on a rainy day. When I still my thoughts and I just take the time to breathe in God’s peace it really helps. And developing this as a habit has really been the thread that has weaved that blanket of peace for me. Sending you lots of love across the miles.

When I was a little girl I would pray for mommy & daddy to stop fighting & yelling. I also prayed for sick relatives to get better. And lots of other things like that, never about myself in relation with that “God”. I gave up on prayers but always knew there was something greater out there than me. I never gave up on that. My soul has searched & now I have found that this is a co-creative thing, there are things I can’t control & to surrender, let go & trust. There is so much good around me. Thank you so much Colette!

Love this! Prayers help us to reconnect and realise we are part of something much bigger. I think of prayer as talking to God the way I would a friend, as opposed to ” if you do this I’ll do that” wise advice! Thank you Colette!!

When we bargain we are in the duality and disconnected – when we are appreciative we are in connection and oneness. When we am in the latter, I do not need to pray, I feel connected to all things and do not want for anything. ♥️

I love these prayers and so agree with how your approach/wisdom about prayer grew. I too have prayed from a place of lack, anxiety, fear & ‘ugly’. It only worked in that it showed me I wasn’t connecting with my Higher Power and my True Self and wasn’t asking for highest good. When I need help, I say ‘I need help with this’ and then totally surrender it to love and light and gratitude.

When I ‘pray’ it’s always prayers of thanksgiving; “Thank you for another day on this beautiful planet”, Thank you for my health and wellness”, Thank you for my family, home, car, etc, etc. I find that when I start my day in a state of gratitude everything just works. I feel lighter, I feel open to the beauty of our Earth and I find that I feel much more connected; not just to my Higher Self, but to every person who I encounter throughout my day.
Thank you for all you do!

Here is a poem from Tagore. Very eloquently stated.
My prayers are simple. ” Patience Lord but HURRY!!!”
Thank you for everything. Reveal to me how I can best
serve and become the best version of myself. Praying
for guidance, inspiration. and ” I don’t know” are some
others. Thy will not mine. What is there in this experience
that has meaning and purpose. Did I miss something.
Why not me? What is the best next action I can take?
    If not NOW, WHEN???

Let me not pray to be sheltered from dangers
but to be fearless in facing them.

Let me not beg for the stilling of my pain
but for the heart to conquer it.

Let me not look for allies in life’s battlefield
    but to my own strength.

Let me not crave in anxious fear to be saved
but hope for the patience to win my freedom.

Grant that I may not be a coward,
    feeling Your mercy in my success alone;

But let me find the grasp of Your hand in my failure.

    bengali poet – rabindranath tagore – 1916

    Dear Colette and All
I love this blog, thank you Colette. I, too, have learned the correct way to pray. I ask to be shown what I need to do God’s will for me this day. I ask to always see things in truth – that is, with the eyes of love, with Spirit. God’s plan is always better than anything I could think up!
I feel and express gratitude because I see and feel the results of asking Spirit to guide me. My life is by no means problem free, yet I experience even problems as simply different plans from mine.
    Life is peaceful and happy.
    Much love to all 💞

Took me a little while to realize this to, ever noticed the times your prayers are self centered is usually a time when you are experiencing trauma or unhappiness. Once I accepted that all these events are a chance of growth and to look at things in a different way things changed for the better. Count your blessings. I was at one time a little frustrated with having to get up early every day and make an hour long journey 4 times a day to drop and pick up my daughter from her tafe, the cost of fuel and the time spent driving. Then I changed my outlook and started appreciating the time I got to spend with her on the journey, the beautiful scenery I got to enjoy each trip and how I felt better as a mother. I miss those trips now.
