You’re not Broken.
This is the FIRST most important statement I say to my participants when they show up for Oracle School. So much focus on what’s not working can create tunnel vision and distortion, and this is not helpful at all. Why? Because it’s a lie! You’re NOT broken.
Look, I get it. There was a time in my life when I believed something in me was fundamentally flawed.
I was desperate for certainty. I pulled Tarot cards obsessively, hoping to hear that everything would be okay. I didn’t understand that I wasn’t broken; I was suffering from spiritual amnesia! I was identifying with everything that was painful in my life, and I was disconnected from Spirit.
I remember in my early 20s, I sat in a tiny tea room in Toronto, waiting to see a psychic known for being eerily accurate. I had stars in my eyes and dreams in my heart. I was sure he would confirm I was destined for success.
Guess what! He didn’t.
He told me I’d struggle, that I’d never find lasting love, that I’d die young. Oh, and I would live a fairly good life in spite of myself, learn through my suffering, help others and kinda in poverty.
WHAT??? Omg all the blood drained out of me. I was so dizzy afterward. It felt like a horrible, evil curse.
And for a long time… I believed him.
What he said rooted itself deep inside me, and I lived my life as if it were already true. I spiraled into addiction, clung to toxic relationships, and sabotaged the very things I wanted most. I thought I was broken. Actually, when I think about it now, his prediction helped me hit bottom, given I rehearsed the doom and gloom until I just couldn’t take it anymore.
Until one day, at the ripe old age of 27, I couldn’t pretend anymore. I surrendered.
And in that surrender, something beautiful happened—Spirit showed up.
Not with lightning bolts or loud answers. Just a quiet knowing: There is more for you.
In the early days of my sobriety (I forgot to mention I got clean and sober almost 40 years ago, yadaydayda), I found myself in a Jungian therapist’s office. She didn’t ask me to tell her all of my woes. Instead, she handed me a Tarot deck.
She asked me to choose ten cards, and what she mirrored back wasn’t a “what will happen.” It was a snapshot of who I was, what I’d been through, and what I needed to reclaim.
Something cracked open in me. The cards weren’t a window into the future. They were a mystical mirror to my soul.
After that, I started to work with Tarot cards in a new way for myself, not to predict what would happen, but to understand who I was, what I was healing, and how Spirit was guiding me in the present moment.
And as I deepened that practice, I found myself wanting even more clarity, something that felt personal and Spirit-led. So, as I had been an obsessive student of ancient divination techniques, I was called to create my own Oracle Deck using playing cards, stickers, and symbols. It became my personal “clarity deck”—a second opinion, a mystical check-in, a way to connect even more intimately with my inner knowing and my lived “in my bones” experience.
That deck helped me learn how to ask better questions. It helped me trust what I was hearing. And it became a bridge between me and Spirit, between my old story and the new one I was ready to live. That deck became the foundation of all my decks after that.
I’ve come to see Oracle Cards not as a tool to “predict,” but as a way to partner with the Universe.
Every day, I sit with Spirit. I ask. I listen. I pull a card to receive Divine clarity for the now. You see, the future is planted and rooted in the now. Every 24 hours, we get another chance to create our foundation for the future.
We need to stop looking for what to fix and remember who we are!
Oracle Cards helped me back then and still help me now remember who I am. They remind me I am not broken, nor was I ever.
And the truth is: you’re not broken either.
