I can’t believe we are already in August!
I am so aware of the seasonal shifts, especially when corn season is full on where I live. I could seriously eat nothing but corn all by itself for two solid weeks, it’s so good here.
And what a full summer this has been.
We just had a major full moon in Aquarius last week, illuminating the lessons of Mercury retrograde in Cancer, still in the shadow phase. If you’re aware of the invitations written in the stars, you know there is work to be done, lessons to be learned, and ways in which we’re being asked to reevaluate our gifts to the collective, and to not only have the courage to offer them, but to also understand what safety, security, nourishment, home, family, attachment, and surrender mean to us.
It’s been a lot to digest.
I personally learned some essential lessons through the release of my album, My Dark Church.
And isn’t that just like Spirit?
We think we’re doing one thing. We think we’re releasing a project, sharing a body of work, putting something into the world, and then suddenly we realize the thing we are releasing is also releasing us…From an old story…an old timeline…from the idea that a dream has an expiration date.
I learned that courage does not come in the absence of fear, and even though I have now done the thing, I have no idea who will be touched by this work.
I have not been able to fully express all of me, offer my full experience of being human in a world where our humanity is at stake, until I returned to music, until now.
And that’s the part I want to linger with for a moment…Until now.
Those two little words carry so much.
How many things do we place in the “too late” pile because life moved in another direction?
How many parts of ourselves do we tuck away because we think the moment passed, or the door closed, or the old map no longer applies?
But what if the timing was not wrong?
What if the dream was not gone?
What if something sacred in you has simply been waiting for the version of you who could return to it with more truth, more tenderness, and less attachment to how it is supposed to be received?
That is one of the essential lessons this album has brought me…it’s never too late.
My Dark Church, the title track, speaks to the energy of the current astrology, asking us to reflect, to choose our truth, to tend to our sanctuary, to discover our light in the dark, to call back to the ancient threads of stories that still weave into our lives today.
Music was my first Oracle, my first language, my first mirror and the companion I could rely on to be with me along the way of becoming who I am now and who I will be.
I learned to listen deeply by allowing music to reflect truth back to me especially when I was faced with so much unknown. One thing now is certain: whatever the sky is describing, whatever map is being shown to us, we are all walking through a world where so much is uncertain. We need to hear and feel the truth more acutely, intuitively and energetically, because we can’t always see what’s around the corner, nor can we always trust what we’re being shown.
The great unknown is calling, and so deep listening is our latent super-power we need to reclaim.
My friend, astrologer Jennifer Racioppi, (a true audiophile) has been talking with me at length about how to bridge these subjects, so stay tuned for some deep diving into the music of the spheres and how to truly listen, and how music is a form of energy medicine and can be a working Oracle too!
And speaking of listening in this deeper way, we’re planning something very special on August 25 called Listen to What’s Calling You.
It will be a live Zoom experience with special guests The Brothers Koren, my musical partners in this album, and my friend, the amazing creatrix Ayesha Ophelia.
Yes, we’ll be listening to music from My Dark Church, but we’ll also be exploring how music can become an Oracle.
How does a song find you? What message rises through the melody? What memory, longing, truth, or divine guidance begins to stir when you listen with your whole self? Together, we’ll use the music as a mystical portal—a way to listen for what’s calling from beneath the surface.
More details are coming soon, and I’ll share them with you as soon as I can.
For now, keep listening. You never know what might be calling you back to life.
