Jump Starting Your New Life – Now!!

Updated: May 10, 2013

Okay, it’s May and you’re wondering where the year went already, right?  Chances are you’ve survived tax season, you are in a routine with your schedule and oh, yeah, you forgot your New Year’s Resolutions, if you made them.

In a previous blog post, “When Your Spring Hasn’t Sprung Yet” I shared some strategies for helping your body and your mind get into the Spring spirit, even if it was still snowing outside.  Now is a perfect time to take a couple of moments to “see and feel” your new life.  It’s a new season so let’s purposefully imagine your new life going forward, starting today.  Here’s one of my favorite exercises I share in my book, Weight Loss for People Who Feel Too Much.

Shopping List for Your New Life – Exercise

Start a shopping list for your new life, as if you could simply pop over to the store and pick up what you would like, with someone else covering the bill. If you weren’t thinking about all the obstacles between you and the life you’d like for yourself, what would you “pick up”?

Would you want to bring in more time with friends? What would you do with them? Would you talk over lunch or drinks, or while walking your dogs to the dog run together?

What opportunities would you slip into your cart, for use when you are ready? Would you want an opportunity to exercise socially without feeling that everyone is staring at you or judging you? What would that opportunity look like?

What kind of food would you pick up? What cooking skills would you start using?

What clothes will you wear? What will they say about you?

What job or jobs will you have? What responsibilities will you take on? Will the work you do be fulfilling? Will the people you work with be flexible and respectful of your needs? What will that look like? Will you collaborate with them or compete with them?

As you draw up your list, if you feel hesitation about acknowledging what you want for yourself, stop. Get in touch with why you feel that situation is off limits to you.

I look forward to hearing what your new life looks like and how this exercise helped you become clear about what you want – and deserve.  Please share your insights in the comments section below.

Hi Colette! I just finished listening to your session on Healing With The Masters on replay. Have to say that after relating to almost every caller you spoke with … and the card that I picked myself … I was not surprised to see the subject of your post today. I am filling up my cart as we speak and now I am asking myself why I would only pick those items if it didn’t “cost” me anything, if I didn’t have to pay for them myself. Now I am wondering why I think they are so costly at all? Will be doing this exercise again after I’ve sat with this idea for a while. Thanks again. Sending you love.

I love that exercise! I’m going to do my new shopping list! I know there’s going to be a lot more travel to exotic places, lot’s of time to cuddle with my fiancé & furry animals

Top that off with extra joy, lot’s of laughter & luxurious naps.

And if I get to shop for anything I want (yay!) I want more Prada, Gucci & Armani in my wardrobe 🙂

What a joyful, liberating exercise, Colette! Approaching this with an open heart and a sense of fun both allowed me to honor how I’m feeling in this moment, and really acknowledge my deepest desires and add those to my list! Yay!!! Much love and gratitude!
